Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੈ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਨਾ ॥

rovanahaarai jhootth kamaanaa |

The mourner practices falsehood;

ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਸੋਗੁ ਕਰਤ ਬੇਗਾਨਾ ॥੧॥

has has sog karat begaanaa |1|

he laughs with glee, while mourning for others. ||1||

ਕੋ ਮੂਆ ਕਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਨੁ ॥

ko mooaa kaa kai ghar gaavan |

Someone has died, while there is singing in someone else's house.

ਕੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਕੋ ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਪਾਵਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ko rovai ko has has paavan |1| rahaau |

One mourns and bewails, while another laughs with glee. ||1||Pause||

ਬਾਲ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਧਾਨਾ ॥

baal bivasathaa te biradhaanaa |

From childhood to old age,

ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਮੂਕਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੨॥

pahuch na mookaa fir pachhutaanaa |2|

the mortal does not attain his goals, and he comes to regret in the end. ||2||

ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

trihu gun meh varatai sansaaraa |

The world is under the influence of the three qualities.

ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

narak surag fir fir aautaaraa |3|

The mortal is reincarnated, again and again, into heaven and hell. ||3||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਨਾਮ ॥

kahu naanak jo laaeaa naam |

Says Nanak, one who is attached to the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਪਰਵਾਨ ॥੪॥੨੪॥੭੫॥

safal janam taa kaa paravaan |4|24|75|

becomes acceptable, and his life becomes fruitful. ||4||24||75||
