Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਕਬ ਊਚੇ ਕਬ ਨੀਚੇ ॥

sagal samagree mohi viaapee kab aooche kab neeche |

The whole creation is engrossed in emotional attachment; sometimes, one is high, and at other times, low.

ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਤਨਾ ਓੜਕਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੇ ॥੧॥

sudh na hoeeai kaahoo jatanaa orrak ko na pahooche |1|

No one can be purified by any rituals or devices; they cannot reach their goal. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥

mere man saadh saran chhuttakaaraa |

O my mind, emancipation is attained in the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਰਹਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਤ ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bin gur poore janam maran na rahee fir aavat baaro baaraa | rahaau |

Without the Perfect Guru, births and deaths do not cease, and one comes and goes, over and over again. ||Pause||

ਓਹੁ ਜੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੁਲਾਵਾ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

ohu ju bharam bhulaavaa kaheeat tin meh urajhio sagal sansaaraa |

The whole world is entangled in what is called the delusion of doubt.

ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਤੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਾ ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਤੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥

pooran bhagat purakh suaamee kaa sarab thok te niaaraa |2|

The perfect devotee of the Primal Lord God remains detached from everything. ||2||

ਨਿੰਦਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਾਤੈ ਏਹੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ॥

nindau naahee kaahoo baatai ehu khasam kaa keea |

Don't indulge in slander for any reason, for everything is the creation of the Lord and Master.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਉ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥

jaa kau kripaa karee prabh merai mil saadhasangat naau leea |3|

One who is blessed with the Mercy of my God, dwells on the Name in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||3||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਉਧਾਰਾ ॥

paarabraham paramesur satigur sabhanaa karat udhaaraa |

The Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, the True Guru, saves all.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਰੀਐ ਇਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੯॥

kahu naanak gur bin nahee tareeai ihu pooran tat beechaaraa |4|9|

Says Nanak, without the Guru, no one crosses over; this is the perfect essence of all contemplation. ||4||9||
