ਬਹੁਰ ਸੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਥਾ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥

bahur su mantree kathaa uchaaree |

ਏਕ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਜੋਬਨ ਕੀ ਭਰੀ ॥

ek tarun joban kee bharee |

The minister related the tale of a woman who was very youthful.

ਏਕ ਚੋਰ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਠਗ ਬਰਿਯੋ ॥

ek chor taa keh tthag bariyo |

ਅਧਿਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਚਿਤ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੧॥

adhik anand duhoon chit kariyo |1|

She fell in love with a thief and a swindler and let both of them savour her.(1)

ਰੈਨਿ ਭਏ ਤਸਕਰ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

rain bhe tasakar utth jaavai |

ਦਿਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਠਗ ਦਰਬੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

din dekhat tthag darab kamaavai |

The thief would go during the night and the swindler would make money during the day.

ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੌ ਦੋਊ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

taa triy sau doaoo bhog kamaaee |

ਮੂਰਖ ਭੇਦ ਪਛਾਨਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

moorakh bhed pachhaanat naahee |2|

Both enjoyed sex with her but the fools did not discern the woman.(2)

ਠਗ ਜਾਨੈ ਮੋਰੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

tthag jaanai moree hai naaree |

ਚੋਰ ਕਹੈ ਮੋਰੀ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥

chor kahai moree hitakaaree |

The swindler would think the woman was for him and the thief would consider her as his lover.

ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਦੋਊ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੈ ॥

triy kai taeh doaoo pahichaanai |

ਮੂਰਖ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੩॥

moorakh bhed na koaoo jaanai |3|

The woman’s secret was not conceived and those simpletons remained in obscurity.(3)
