ROOAAL STANZA
ਛੀਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਸੁਨ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਵਤਾਰ ॥
chheer saagar hai jahaa sun raaj raaj vataar |
ਮਛ ਉਦਰ ਮਛੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਠ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
machh udar machhandr jogee baitth hai brat dhaar |
“O king! the Yogi Matsyendra is sitting in contemplation in the belly of the fish in milk-ocean
ਡਾਰਿ ਜਾਰ ਨਿਕਾਰ ਤਾਕਹਿ ਪੂਛ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
ddaar jaar nikaar taakeh poochh lehu banaae |
“Take him out with your net and ask him, O king!
ਜੋ ਕਹਾ ਸੋ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਇਹੀ ਸਤਿ ਉਪਾਇ ॥੧੩੭॥
jo kahaa so keejeeai nrip ihee sat upaae |137|
Do whatever I have said this is the real measure?”137.
ਜੋਰਿ ਬੀਰਨ ਨਾਖ ਸਿੰਧਹ ਆਗ ਚਾਲ ਸੁਬਾਹ ॥
jor beeran naakh sindhah aag chaal subaah |
The king gathering together lakhs of his warriors moved away further from the ocean
ਹੂਰ ਪੂਰ ਰਹੀ ਜਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਜਤ੍ਰ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਉਛਾਹ ॥
hoor poor rahee jahaa tahaa jatr tatr uchhaah |
Where the heavenly damsels were moving here and there enthusiastically
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਜਤ ਅਉਰ ਘੁਰਤ ਨਿਸਾਨ ॥
bhaat bhaat bajantr baajat aaur ghurat nisaan |
They all reached there sounding their drums and playing instruments of various types,
ਛੀਰ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਹੁਤੋ ਜਹਾ ਤਿਹ ਠਾਮ ਪਹੁਚੇ ਆਨਿ ॥੧੩੮॥
chheer sindh huto jahaa tih tthaam pahuche aan |138|
Where there was the milk-ocean.138.
ਸੂਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਰ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਮਧਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
sootr jaar banaae kai tih madh ddaar apaar |
ਅਉਰ ਜੀਵ ਘਨੇ ਗਹੇ ਨ ਵਿਲੋਕਯੋ ਸਿਵ ਬਾਰ ॥
aaur jeev ghane gahe na vilokayo siv baar |
The nets of cotton were prepared and thrown into the ocean, in which many other beings were caught, but the son of Shiva (Matsyendra) was not seen
ਹਾਰਿ ਹਾਰਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਸਬੈ ਭਟ ਆਨਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤੀਰ ॥
haar haar fire sabai bhatt aan bhoopat teer |
ਅਉਰ ਜੀਵ ਘਨੇ ਗਹੇ ਪਰ ਸੋ ਨ ਪਾਵ ਫਕੀਰ ॥੧੩੯॥
aaur jeev ghane gahe par so na paav fakeer |139|
All the warriors, greatly tired came before the king and said, “Many other beings have been caught, but that sage is nowhere to be found.”139.
ਮਛ ਪੇਟਿ ਮਛੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਠ ਹੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਸ ॥
machh pett machhandr jogee baitth hai bin aas |
ਜਾਰ ਭੇਟ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਵਾ ਕੋ ਮੋਨਿ ਅੰਗ ਸੁ ਬਾਸ ॥
jaar bhett sakai na vaa ko mon ang su baas |
The Yogi is sitting desireless in the belly of the fish and this can’t entrap him
ਏਕ ਜਾਰ ਸੁਨਾ ਨਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਡਾਰੀਐ ਅਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
ek jaar sunaa nayo tih ddaareeai abichaar |
ਸਤਿ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੋ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਵਤਾਰ ॥੧੪੦॥
sat baat kaho tumai sun raaj raaj vataar |140|
“Now, O king! throw another net immediately and this is the only step to catch him.”140.
ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾ ਹਮੋ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਰ ਕੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਾਇ ॥
giaan naam sunaa hamo tih jaar ko nrip raae |
ਤਉਨ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਲੇਹੁ ਗਹਾਇ ॥
taun taa mai ddaar kai mun raaj lehu gahaae |
“O king! we have heard about the name of the net of knowledge, throw the same in the ocean and catch the great sage
ਯੌ ਨ ਹਾਥਿ ਪਰੇ ਮੁਨੀਸੁਰ ਬੀਤ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਰਖ ॥
yau na haath pare muneesur beet hai bahu barakh |
“The sage will not be caught with any other measure even for years
ਸਤਿ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੌ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੁਨ ਲੀਜੀਐ ਭਰਤਰਖ ॥੧੪੧॥
sat baat kahau tumai sun leejeeai bharatarakh |141|
O protector! listen to it, we are telling you the truth.”141.
ਯੌ ਨ ਪਾਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਮੁਨਾਬਰ ਹੋਹਿਾਂ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
yau na paan pare munaabar hohiaan kott upaae |
“You may take croes of measures except this, you will not be able to catch him
ਡਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਗ︀ਯਾਨ ਜਾਰ ਸੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਗਹਾਇ ॥
ddaar ke tum gayaan jaar su taas lehu gahaae |
” Only throw the net of knowledge and catch him”
ਗ︀ਯਾਨ ਜਾਰ ਜਬੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰਬਰ ਡਾਰ︀ਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਬੀਚ ॥
gayaan jaar jabai nripanbar ddaarayo tih beech |
ਤਉਨ ਜਾਰ ਗਹੋ ਮੁਨਾਬਰ ਜਾਨੁ ਦੂਜ ਦਧੀਚ ॥੧੪੨॥
taun jaar gaho munaabar jaan dooj dadheech |142|
When the king threw the net of knowledge into the ocean that net caught him like the second Dadhich.142.
ਮਛ ਸਹਿਤ ਮਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਧਿ ਜਾਰ ਮਝਾਰ ॥
machh sahit machhindr jogee badh jaar majhaar |
ਮਛ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਕੈ ਸਬ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਏ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ॥
machh lok bilok kai sab hvai ge bisanbhaar |
The Yogi Matsyendra was caught alongwith the fish, having been entrapped in the net and seeing that fish all were wonder-struck
ਦ੍ਵੈ ਮਹੂਰਤ ਬਿਤੀ ਜਬੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਕਛੁ ਅੰਗਿ ॥
dvai mahoorat bitee jabai sudh paae kai kachh ang |
ਭੂਪ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਗਏ ਸਭੈ ਭਟ ਬਾਧਿ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤੰਗ ॥੧੪੩॥
bhoop dvaar ge sabhai bhatt baadh asatr utang |143|
After some time, when all the people regained some health, then all the warriors, depositing their arms and weapons reached at the gate of the king.143.
ਮਛ ਉਦਰ ਲਗੇ ਸੁ ਚੀਰਨ ਕਿਉਹੂੰ ਨ ਚੀਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
machh udar lage su cheeran kiauhoon na cheeraa jaae |
They began to rip the belly of the fish, but none of them could do it
ਹਾਰਿ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੈ ਜਬੈ ਤਬ ਪੂਛ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
haar haar parai jabai tab poochh mitr bulaae |
When all of them gave in, then the king called his friends and asked them :
ਅਉਰ ਕਉਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੀਐ ਉਪਚਾਰ ਤਾਕਰ ਆਜ ॥
aaur kaun bichaareeai upachaar taakar aaj |
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਪਰੈ ਮੁਨੀਸ੍ਵਰ ਸਰੇ ਹਮਰੋ ਕਾਜੁ ॥੧੪੪॥
drisatt jaa te parai muneesvar sare hamaro kaaj |144|
“Now what measure be adopted, so that we may be successful in our objective and see the great sage.”144.
