ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

disatt bikaaree bandhan baandhai hau tis kai bal jaaee |

I am a sacrifice to that one who binds in bondage his evil and corrupted gaze.

ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

paap pun kee saar na jaanai bhoolaa firai ajaaee |1|

One who does not know the difference between vice and virtue wanders around uselessly. ||1||

ਬੋਲਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥

bolahu sach naam karataar |

Speak the True Name of the Creator Lord.

ਫੁਨਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਣ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

fun bahurr na aavan vaar |1| rahaau |

Then, you shall never again have to come into this world. ||1||Pause||

ਊਚਾ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥

aoochaa te fun neech karat hai neech karai sulataan |

The Creator transforms the high into the low, and makes the lowly into kings.

ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਸੁਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਗਿ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੨॥

jinee jaan sujaaniaa jag te poore paravaan |2|

Those who know the All-knowing Lord are approved and certified as perfect in this world. ||2||

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਣ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਭੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

taa kau samajhaavan jaaeeai je ko bhoolaa hoee |

If anyone is mistaken and fooled, you should go to instruct him.

ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭ ਕਰਤਾ ਐਸਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥

aape khel kare sabh karataa aisaa boojhai koee |3|

The Creator Himself plays all the games; only a few understand this. ||3||

ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਪਰੀਤਾ ॥

naau prabhaatai sabad dhiaaeeai chhoddahu dunee pareetaa |

Meditate on the Name, and the Word of the Shabad, in the early hours before dawn; leave your worldly entanglements behind.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਜੀਤਾ ॥੪॥੯॥

pranavat naanak daasan daasaa jag haariaa tin jeetaa |4|9|

Prays Nanak, the slave of God's slaves: the world loses, and he wins. ||4||9||
