ਅਥ ਅਰਿਹੰਤ ਦੇਵ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

Now begins the description of the incarnation named Arhant Dev :

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

Let Sri Bhaguti Ji (The Primal Lord) be helpful.

ਜਬ ਜਬ ਦਾਨਵ ਕਰਤ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

jab jab daanav karat paasaaraa |

ਤਬ ਤਬ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਘਾਰਾ ॥

tab tab bisan karat sanghaaraa |

Whenever the demons extend their rule, then Vishnu comes to destroy them.

ਸਕਲ ਅਸੁਰ ਇਕਠੇ ਤਹਾ ਭਏ ॥

sakal asur ikatthe tahaa bhe |

ਸੁਰ ਅਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਚਲਿ ਗਏ ॥੧॥

sur ar gur mandar chal ge |1|

Once all the demons gathered together ( seeing them ) the gods and their preceptors went to their abodes.1.

ਸਬਹੂੰ ਮਿਲਿ ਅਸ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥

sabahoon mil as kariyo bichaaraa |

ਦਈਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਘਾਤ ਅਸੁਰਾਰਾ ॥

deetan karat ghaat asuraaraa |

All the demons gathered together and thought out (over this issue), that Vishnu always destroys the demons

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਐਸ ਕਰੌ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਾਤਾ ॥

taa te ais karau kichh ghaataa |

ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬਨੇ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥੨॥

jaa te bane hamaaree baataa |2|

And now they should devise some plan, to settle the issue.2.

ਦਈਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਮ ਬਚਨ ਬਖਾਨਾ ॥

deet guroo im bachan bakhaanaa |

ਤੁਮ ਦਾਨਵੋ ਨ ਭੇਦ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥

tum daanavo na bhed pachhaanaa |

The preceptor of the demons (Shukracharya) said, “O demons, you have not understood this mystery till now

ਵੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਗ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਾ ॥

ve mil jag karat bahu bhaataa |

ਕੁਸਲ ਹੋਤ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੩॥

kusal hot taa te din raataa |3|

“The gods gather together and perform Yajnas (sacrifices), therefore thay always remain happy.3.

ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਕਰੋ ਜਗ ਆਰੰਭਨ ॥

tum hoon karo jag aaranbhan |

ਬਿਜੈ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਣ ॥

bijai hoe tumaree taa te ran |

You should also perform sacrifices, and then you will be victorious in the battlefield.

ਜਗ ਅਰੰਭ︀ਯ ਦਾਨਵਨ ਕਰਾ ॥

jag aranbhay daanavan karaa |

ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਸੁਰਪੁਰਿ ਥਰਹਰਾ ॥੪॥

bachan sunat surapur tharaharaa |4|

“You should then began the performance of a Yajna, and hearing about it , the people of the region of gods became fearful.4.

ਬਿਸਨੁ ਬੋਲ ਕਰਿ ਕਰੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥

bisan bol kar karo bichaaraa |

ਅਬ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਅਸੁਰਾਰਾ ॥

ab kachh karo mantr asuraaraa |

All the gods went to meet Vishnu and said, “ O destroyer of demons take some steps now.”

ਬਿਸਨੁ ਨਵੀਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਬਪੁ ਧਰਿਹੋ ॥

bisan naveen kahiyo bap dhariho |

ਜਗ ਬਿਘਨ ਅਸੁਰਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਿਹੋ ॥੫॥

jag bighan asuran ko kariho |5|

Vishnu said, “I shall manifest myself in a new body, and destroy the Yajna of the demons.”5.

ਬਿਸਨੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਕੀਨੋ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥

bisan adhik keeno isanaanaa |

ਦੀਨੇ ਅਮਿਤ ਦਿਜਨ ਕਹੁ ਦਾਨਾ ॥

deene amit dijan kahu daanaa |

Vishnu then took bath at various pilgrim-stations, and distributed unlimited alms to the Brahmins.

ਮਨ ਮੋ ਕਵਲਾ ਸ੍ਰਿਜੋ ਗ︀ਯਾਨਾ ॥

man mo kavalaa srijo gayaanaa |

ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੋ ਧਰ︀ਯੋ ਧ︀ਯਾਨਾ ॥੬॥

kaal purakh ko dharayo dhayaanaa |6|

Brahma, born out of the heart-lotus of Vishnu, propagated the divine knowledge, and Vishnu mediated on the Immanent Lord.6.

ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਤਬ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

kaal purakh tab bhe deaalaa |

ਦਾਸ ਜਾਨ ਕਹ ਬਚਨ ਰਿਸਾਲਾ ॥

daas jaan keh bachan risaalaa |

The Immanent Lord, then became Merciful and addressed his servant Vishnu with sweet words,

ਧਰੁ ਅਰਹੰਤ ਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਰੂਪਾ ॥

dhar arahant dev ko roopaa |

ਨਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਅਸੁਰਨ ਕੇ ਭੂਪਾ ॥੭॥

naas karo asuran ke bhoopaa |7|

“O Vishnu, manifest yourself in the forms of Arhant, and destroy the kings of the demons.”7.

ਬਿਸਨੁ ਦੇਵ ਆਗਿਆ ਜਬ ਪਾਈ ॥

bisan dev aagiaa jab paaee |

ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਕਰੀ ਬਡਾਈ ॥

kaal purakh kee karee baddaaee |

Vishnu, after receiving the orders of the Immanent Lord, eulogized him.

ਭੂ ਅਰਹੰਤ ਦੇਵ ਬਨਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

bhoo arahant dev ban aayo |

ਆਨਿ ਅਉਰ ਹੀ ਪੰਥ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥੮॥

aan aaur hee panth chalaayo |8|

He manifested himself as Arhant Dev on the earth and started a new religion.8.

ਜਬ ਅਸੁਰਨ ਕੋ ਭਯੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਈ ॥

jab asuran ko bhayo gur aaee |

ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਤਿ ਨਿਜ ਮਤਹਿ ਚਲਾਈ ॥

bahut bhaat nij mateh chalaaee |

When he became the preceptor of the demons, he started different kinds of sects.

ਸ੍ਰਾਵਗ ਮਤ ਉਪਰਾਜਨ ਕੀਆ ॥

sraavag mat uparaajan keea |

ਸੰਤ ਸਬੂਹਨ ਕੋ ਸੁਖ ਦੀਆ ॥੯॥

sant saboohan ko sukh deea |9|

One of the sects he started was Shravak sect (Jainism) and bestowed supreme comfort to the saints.9.

ਸਬਹੂੰ ਹਾਥਿ ਮੋਚਨਾ ਦੀਏ ॥

sabahoon haath mochanaa dee |

ਸਿਖਾ ਹੀਣ ਦਾਨਵ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਏ ॥

sikhaa heen daanav bahu kee |

He caused all to hold the forceps for plucking hair and in this way he made many demons devoid of the lock of hair on the crown of the head.

ਸਿਖਾ ਹੀਣ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਫੁਰੈ ॥

sikhaa heen koee mantr na furai |

ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਜਪੈ ਉਲਟ ਤਿਹ ਪਰੈ ॥੧੦॥

jo koee japai ulatt tih parai |10|

Those without hair or without the lock of hair on the crown of their heads could not remember any mantra and if anyone repeated the mantra, there was negative influence of the mantra on him.10.

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਗ ਕੋ ਕਰਬ ਮਿਟਾਯੋ ॥

bahur jag ko karab mittaayo |

ਜੀਅ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤੇ ਸਬਹੂੰ ਹਟਾਯੋ ॥

jeea hinsaa te sabahoon hattaayo |

Then he ended the performance of Yajnas and made all indifferent to the idea of violence on beings.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਕੀਅ ਜਗ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

bin hinsaa keea jag na hoee |

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਗ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧੧॥

taa te jag kare na koee |11|

There can be no Yajna without the violence on beings, therefore no one performed Yajna now.11.

ਯਾ ਤੇ ਭਯੋ ਜਗਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਸਾ ॥

yaa te bhayo jagan ko naasaa |

ਜੋ ਜੀਯ ਹਨੈ ਹੋਇ ਉਪਹਾਸਾ ॥

jo jeey hanai hoe upahaasaa |

In this way, the practice of performing Yajnas was destroyed and anyone who used to kill beings, he was ridiculed.

ਜੀਅ ਮਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

jeea mare bin jag na hoee |

ਜਗ ਕਰੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥੧੨॥

jag karai paavai nahee koee |12|

There could be no Yajna without the killing of beings and if one performed a Yajna, he availed no merit.12.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਦੀਯੋ ਸਭਨ ਉਪਦੇਸਾ ॥

eih bidh deeyo sabhan upadesaa |

ਜਗ ਸਕੈ ਕੋ ਕਰ ਨ ਨਰੇਸਾ ॥

jag sakai ko kar na naresaa |

The Arhant incarnation, instructed all in way, that no king could perform a Yajna.

ਅਪੰਥ ਪੰਥ ਸਭ ਲੋਗਨ ਲਾਯਾ ॥

apanth panth sabh logan laayaa |

ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਕੋਊ ਕਰਨ ਨ ਪਾਯਾ ॥੧੩॥

dharam karam koaoo karan na paayaa |13|

Everyone was put on a wrong path and no one was performing the action of Dharma.13.
