First Mehl:

ਸੋ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਜਿ ਪਾਲੇ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥

so udaasee ji paale udaas |

He alone is an Udasi, a shaven-headed renunciate, who embraces renunciation.

ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਵਾਸੁ ॥

aradh uradh kare niranjan vaas |

He sees the Immaculate Lord dwelling in both the upper and lower regions.

ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਪਾਏ ਗੰਢਿ ॥

chand sooraj kee paae gandt |

He balances the sun and the moon energies.

ਤਿਸੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੜੈ ਨ ਕੰਧੁ ॥

tis udaasee kaa parrai na kandh |

The body-wall of such an Udasi does not collapse.

ਬੋਲੈ ਗੋਪੀ ਚੰਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥

bolai gopee chand sat saroop |

Says Gopi Chand, God is the embodiment of Truth;

ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤ ਮਹਿ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੂਪੁ ॥੪॥

param tant meh rekh na roop |4|

the supreme essence of reality has no shape or form. ||4||
