BHUJANG STANZA
ਤਹਾ ਆਪ ਕੀਨੋ ਹੁਸੈਨੀ ਉਤਾਰੰ ॥
tahaa aap keeno husainee utaaran |
ਸਭੂ ਹਾਥ ਬਾਣੰ ਕਮਾਣੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੰ ॥
sabhoo haath baanan kamaanan sanbhaaran |
Then Hussain himself entered the fray, all the warriors took up bows and arrows.
ਰੁਪੇ ਖਾਨਿ ਖੂਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਲਾਗ ਜੁੱਧੰ ॥
rupe khaan khoonee karai laag judhan |
ਮੁਖੰ ਰਕਤ ਨੈਣੰ ਭਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਕ੍ਰੁੱਧੰ ॥੪੫॥
mukhan rakat nainan bhare soor krudhan |45|
The bloody Khans stood firmly and began to fight with faces and eyes red with ire.45.
ਜਗਿਯੋ ਜੰਗ ਜਾਲਮ ਸੁ ਜੋਧੰ ਜੁਝਾਰੰ ॥
jagiyo jang jaalam su jodhan jujhaaran |
ਬਹੇ ਬਾਣ ਬਾਂਕੇ ਬਰੱਛੀ ਦੁਧਾਰੰ ॥
bahe baan baanke barachhee dudhaaran |
The terrible battle of valiant warriors began. The arrows, spears and double-edged swords were used by the heroes.
ਮਿਲੇ ਬੀਰ ਬੀਰੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਧੀਰ ਬੰਕੇ ॥
mile beer beeran mahaan dheer banke |
ਧਕਾ ਧਕਿ ਸੈਥੰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨੰ ਝਨੰਕੇ ॥੪੬॥
dhakaa dhak saithan kripaanan jhananke |46|
The warriors met being pushed forward and the swords are jingling.46.
ਭਏ ਢੋਲ ਢੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਦੰ ਨਫੀਰੰ ॥
bhe dtol dtankaar naadan nafeeran |
ਉਠੈ ਬਾਹੁ ਆਘਾਤ ਗੱਜੈ ਸੁ ਬੀਰੰ ॥
autthai baahu aaghaat gajai su beeran |
The drums and the fifes are resounding, the arms rise to strike blows and the brave fighters are roaring.
ਨਵੰ ਨੱਦ ਨੀਸਾਨ ਬੱਜੇ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
navan nad neesaan baje apaaran |
ਰੁਲੇ ਤੱਛ ਮੁੱਛੰ ਉਠੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਾਰੰ ॥੪੭॥
rule tachh muchhan utthee sasatr jhaaran |47|
The new trumpets resound in great numbers. The chopped heroes are rolling in dust and the sparks arise with the collision of weapons.47.
ਟਕਾ ਟੁੱਕ ਟੋਪੰ ਢਕਾ ਢੁੱਕ ਢਾਲੰ ॥
ttakaa ttuk ttopan dtakaa dtuk dtaalan |
ਮਹਾਂ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਨੈਤ ਬੰਕੇ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਾਲੰ ॥
mahaan beer baanait banke bikraalan |
The helmets and shield have been broken into bits and the great heroes shooting arrows look terrible and not elegant.
ਨਚੇ ਬੀਰ ਬੈਤਾਲਯੰ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ ॥
nache beer baitaalayan bhoot pretan |
ਨਚੀ ਡਾਕਿਣੀ ਜੋਗਣੀ ਉਰਧ ਹੇਤੰ ॥੪੮॥
nachee ddaakinee joganee uradh hetan |48|
The heroic sprits, ghosts, fiends and goblins are dancing. The vampires, female demons and Shiva also are dancing.48.
ਛੁਟੀ ਜੋਗ ਤਾਰੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
chhuttee jog taaree mahaan rudr jaage |
ਡਗਿਯੋ ਧਿਆਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰ ਸਭੈ ਸਿੱਧ ਭਾਗੇ ॥
ddagiyo dhiaan brahaman sabhai sidh bhaage |
The Supreme Rudra hath awakened on coming out of the Yogic contemplation. The meditation of Brahma hath been interrupted and all the Siddhas (adepts) in great fear have run away from their abodes.
ਹਸੇ ਕਿੰਨਰੰ ਜੱਛ ਬਿੱਦਿਆ ਧਰੇਯੰ ॥
hase kinaran jachh bidiaa dhareyan |
ਨਚੀ ਅੱਛਰਾ ਪੱਛਰਾ ਚਾਰਣੇਯੰ ॥੪੯॥
nachee achharaa pachharaa chaaraneyan |49|
The Kinnaers, Yakshas and Vidyadhars are laughing and the wives of bards are dancing.49.
ਪਰਿਓ ਘੋਰ ਜੁੱਧੰ ਸੁ ਸੈਨਾ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
pario ghor judhan su sainaa paraanee |
ਤਹਾਂ ਖਾਂ ਹੁਸੈਨੀ ਮੰਡਿਓ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
tahaan khaan husainee manddio beer baanee |
The fight was most terrible and the army fled away. The great hero Hussain stood firmly in the fled away. The great hero Hussain stood firmly in the field.
ਉਤੈ ਬੀਰ ਧਾਏ ਸੁ ਬੀਰੰ ਜਸ੍ਵਾਰੰ ॥
autai beer dhaae su beeran jasvaaran |
ਸਬੈ ਬਿਉਤ ਡਾਰੇ ਬਗਾ ਸੇ ਅਸ੍ਵਾਰੰ ॥੫੦॥
sabai biaut ddaare bagaa se asvaaran |50|
The heroes of Jaswal ran towards him. The horsemen were cut in the manner the cloth is cut (by the tailor).50.
ਤਹਾਂ ਖਾਂ ਹੁਸੈਨੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਏਕ ਠਾਢੰ ॥
tahaan khaan husainee rahio ek tthaadtan |
ਮਨੋ ਜੁੱਧ ਖੰਭੰ ਰਣੰ ਭੂਮ ਗਾਡੰ ॥
mano judh khanbhan ranan bhoom gaaddan |
There Hussain stood quite alone like the pole of a flagg fixed in the ground.
ਜਿਸੈ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਹਠੀ ਬਾਣ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥
jisai kop kai kai hatthee baan maario |
ਤਿਸੈ ਛੇਦ ਕੈ ਪੈਲ ਪਾਰੇ ਪਧਾਰਿਓ ॥੫੧॥
tisai chhed kai pail paare padhaario |51|
Wherever that tenacious warrior shot his arrow, it pierced though the body and went out. 51.
ਸਹੇ ਬਾਣ ਸੂਰੰ ਸਭੈ ਆਣ ਢੂਕੈ ॥
sahe baan sooran sabhai aan dtookai |
ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਕੂਕੈ ॥
chahoon or te maar hee maar kookai |
The warriors who were struck by arrows came together against him. From all the four sides, they shouted “kill, kill”.
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਸੋ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਉ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਾਰੇ ॥
bhalee bhaant so asatr aau sasatr jhaare |
ਗਿਰੇ ਭਿਸਤ ਕੋ ਖਾਂ ਹੁਸੈਨੀ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੫੨॥
gire bhisat ko khaan husainee sidhaare |52|
They carried and struck their weapons very ably. At last Hussain fell down and left for heaven.52.
