Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਏਕ ਨ ਭਰੀਆ ਗੁਣ ਕਰਿ ਧੋਵਾ ॥
ek na bhareea gun kar dhovaa |
I am not stained by only one sin, that could be washed clean by virtue.
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਹੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਹਉ ਨਿਸਿ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਵਾ ॥੧॥
meraa sahu jaagai hau nis bhar sovaa |1|
My Husband Lord is awake, while I sleep through the entire night of my life. ||1||
ਇਉ ਕਿਉ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੋਵਾ ॥
eiau kiau kant piaaree hovaa |
In this way, how can I become dear to my Husband Lord?
ਸਹੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਹਉ ਨਿਸ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sahu jaagai hau nis bhar sovaa |1| rahaau |
My Husband Lord remains awake, while I sleep through the entire night of my life. ||1||Pause||
ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਸੇਜੈ ਆਵਾ ॥
aas piaasee sejai aavaa |
With hope and desire, I approach His Bed,
ਆਗੈ ਸਹ ਭਾਵਾ ਕਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਾ ॥੨॥
aagai seh bhaavaa ki na bhaavaa |2|
but I do not know whether He will be pleased with me or not. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਗਾ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
kiaa jaanaa kiaa hoeigaa ree maaee |
How do I know what will happen to me, O my mother?
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har darasan bin rehan na jaaee |1| rahaau |
Without the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, I cannot survive. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਿਸ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਨੀ ॥
prem na chaakhiaa meree tis na bujhaanee |
I have not tasted His Love, and my thirst is not quenched.
ਗਇਆ ਸੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਧਨ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
geaa su joban dhan pachhutaanee |3|
My beautiful youth has run away, and now I, the soul-bride, repent and regret. ||3||
ਅਜੈ ਸੁ ਜਾਗਉ ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ॥
ajai su jaagau aas piaasee |
Even now, I am held by hope and desire.
ਭਈਲੇ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਰਹਉ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bheele udaasee rhau niraasee |1| rahaau |
I am depressed; I have no hope at all. ||1||Pause||
ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਇ ਕਰੇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
haumai khoe kare seegaar |
She overcomes her egotism, and adorns herself;
ਤਉ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸੇਜੈ ਰਵੈ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
tau kaaman sejai ravai bhataar |4|
the Husband Lord now ravishes and enjoys the soul-bride on His Bed. ||4||
ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੰਤੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
tau naanak kantai man bhaavai |
Then, O Nanak, the bride becomes pleasing to the Mind of her Husband Lord;
ਛੋਡਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਅਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੨੬॥
chhodd vaddaaee apane khasam samaavai |1| rahaau |26|
she sheds her self-conceit, and is absorbed in her Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||26||
