Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਇਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

gur saaeir satigur sach soe |

The Guru is the Ocean; the True Guru is the Embodiment of Truth.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

poorai bhaag gur sevaa hoe |

Through perfect good destiny, one serves the Guru.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

so boojhai jis aap bujhaae |

He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself inspires to understand.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥

gur parasaadee sev karaae |1|

By Guru's Grace, one serves Him. ||1||

ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

giaan ratan sabh sojhee hoe |

With the jewel of spiritual wisdom, total understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

gur parasaad agiaan binaasai anadin jaagai vekhai sach soe |1| rahaau |

By Guru's Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥

mohu gumaan gur sabad jalaae |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attachment and pride are burnt away.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥

poore gur te sojhee paae |

From the Perfect Guru, true understanding is obtained.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

antar mehal gur sabad pachhaanai |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one realizes the Lord's Presence within.

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੨॥

aavan jaan rahai thir naam samaane |2|

Then, one's coming and going cease, and one becomes stable, absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

jaman maranaa hai sansaar |

The world is tied to birth and death.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥

manamukh achet maaeaa mohu gubaar |

The unconscious, self-willed manmukh is enveloped in the darkness of Maya and emotional attachment.

ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

par nindaa bahu koorr kamaavai |

He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood.

ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

visattaa kaa keerraa visattaa maeh samaavai |3|

He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3||

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥

satasangat mil sabh sojhee paae |

Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, total understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥

gur kaa sabad har bhagat drirraae |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted.

ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

bhaanaa mane sadaa sukh hoe |

One who surrenders to the Lord's Will is peaceful forever.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥

naanak sach samaavai soe |4|10|49|

O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49||
