ਤਬ ਰਾਜੈ ਇਹ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥

tab raajai ih bachan uchaaree |

ਸੁਨੁ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥

sun raanee kokilaa piaaree |

And he said, ‘Listen, my beloved Kokila Rani,

ਏਕ ਹਰਾਇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਹਿ ਮੈ ਆਯੋ ॥

ek haraae mrigeh mai aayo |

ਕੰਪਤ ਬੂਟ ਮੈ ਦੁਰਿਯੋ ਡਰਾਯੋ ॥੬੧॥

kanpat boott mai duriyo ddaraayo |61|

‘I have just defeated a deer and, dreaded, it is hiding in the bushes.’(61)

ਹੌਡੀ ਬਾਤ ਮੂੰਡ ਇਹ ਆਨੀ ॥

hauaddee baat moondd ih aanee |

ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥

mrig pai kar kokilaa pachhaanee |

When Raja told her this, she accepted that Raja was really talking about the deer.

ਕਹੇ ਤੌ ਤੁਰਤ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਨਿ ਲ︀ਯਾਊ ॥

kahe tau turat taeh han layaaoo |

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤੁਮ ਕੋ ਮਾਸੁ ਖਵਾਊ ॥੬੨॥

taa ko tum ko maas khavaaoo |62|

He added, ‘If you say so, I will go and kill that deer and bring its meat for your eating.’(62)

ਤਬ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥

tab kokilaa khusee hvai gee |

ਚਾਹਤ ਥੀ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਭਈ ॥

chaahat thee chit mai so bhee |

Kokila was very much pleased to hear this as she already wanted this to happen.

ਯਹ ਇਨ ਮੂੜ ਭੇਦ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

yeh in moorr bhed neh paayo |

ਤਜਿ ਯਾ ਕੌ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੬੩॥

taj yaa kau mrig ko tab dhaayo |63|

She could not acquiesces the real purpose and Raja went out towards the deer.(63)

ਸੀੜਿਨ ਬੀਚ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਲਗ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥

seerrin beech nripat lag rahiyo |

ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਨ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਗਹਿਯੋ ॥

teer kamaan haath mai gahiyo |

With bow and arrow in his hands, Raja stood on the stairs.

ਜਬ ਹੋਡੀ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਚਲਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

jab hoddee tih tthaa chal aayo |

ਬਿਹਸਿ ਰਿਸਾਲੁ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੬੪॥

bihas risaal bachan sunaayo |64|

When the deer came towards that side, Rasaloo said jovially,(64)

ਅਬ ਤੁਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਪੌਰਖਹਿ ਧਰੋ ॥

ab tum kahiyo pauarakheh dharo |

ਮੋ ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਘਾਇ ਕਹ ਕਰੋ ॥

mo par pratham ghaae keh karo |

‘Now 1 tell you that you must attack me with great care.’

ਕੰਪਤ ਤ੍ਰਸਤ ਨਹਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

kanpat trasat neh sasatr sanbhaariyo |

ਤਨਿ ਧਨੁ ਬਾਨ ਰਿਸਾਲੂ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੬੫॥

tan dhan baan risaaloo maariyo |65|

With full control upon his arms and Rasaloo pulled hard and shot an arrow.(65)

ਲਾਗਤ ਬਾਨ ਧਰਨਿ ਗਿਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥

laagat baan dharan gir pariyo |

ਏਕੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਣ ਲਾਗਤ ਹੀ ਮਰਿਯੋ ॥

ekai brin laagat hee mariyo |

The arrow hit him (the Raja inside the mat) and with one shot alone he was thrown on the ground.

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤੁਰਤ ਮਾਸੁ ਕਟਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

taa ko turat maas katt leeno |

ਭੂੰਜਿ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੬੬॥

bhoonj kokilaa kau lai deeno |66|

He cut his meat and, after roasting, gave that to Kokila.(66)

ਜਬ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਸੁ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਖਾਯੋ ॥

jab tih maas kokilaa khaayo |

ਲਗਿਯੋ ਸਲੌਨੋ ਅਤਿ ਚਿਤ ਭਾਯੋ ॥

lagiyo salauano at chit bhaayo |

When Kokila ate that meat, she relished it tastefully and said,

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤੁਲਿ ਮਾਸੁ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

jaa ke tul maas koaoo naahee |

ਰਾਜਾ ਮੈ ਰੀਝੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੬੭॥

raajaa mai reejhee man maahee |67|

‘There has never been the meat like this before and I feel very touch satiated.’(67)

ਤਬ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥

tab reesaaloo bachan uchaare |

ਵਹੈ ਮਿਰਗ ਕਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

vahai mirag kar pariyo hamaare |

Then Rasaloo told her, ‘This is the same deer, with whom you made

ਜਿਯਤ ਤੂ ਜਾ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥

jiyat too jaa sau bhog kamaayo |

ਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਮਾਸੁ ਤਿਹ ਖਾਯੋ ॥੬੮॥

mare praat maas tih khaayo |68|

Love and now you have eaten it.’(68)

ਜਬ ਯਹ ਤਨਿਕ ਭਨਿਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਈ ॥

jab yeh tanik bhanik sun pee |

ਲਾਲ ਹੁਤੀ ਪਿਯਰੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥

laal hutee piyaree hvai gee |

When she heard this, her rosy cheeks turned pale (and thought),

ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ਜਿਯਬੋ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥

dhrig jiyabo ih jagat hamaaro |

ਜਿਨ ਘਾਯੋ ਨਿਜੁ ਮੀਤ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੋ ॥੬੯॥

jin ghaayo nij meet payaaro |69|

‘It is blasphemous to live in a world where my loved one is killed.’(69)
