Salok, Third Mehl:
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਜਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸੁ ॥
poorab likhiaa kamaavanaa ji karatai aap likhiaas |
He acts according to pre-ordained destiny, written by the Creator Himself.
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥
moh tthgaulee paaeean visariaa gunataas |
Emotional attachment has drugged him, and he has forgotten the Lord, the treasure of virtue.
ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵਦਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮੁਇਆਸੁ ॥
mat jaanahu jag jeevadaa doojai bhaae mueaas |
Don't think that he is alive in the world - he is dead, through the love of duality.
ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੇ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਨੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jinee guramukh naam na chetio se behan na milanee paas |
Those who do not meditate on the Lord, as Gurmukh, are not permitted to sit near the Lord.
ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਘਣਾ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਨ ਸਾਥਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਸਿ ॥
dukh laagaa bahu at ghanaa put kalat na saath koee jaas |
They suffer the most horrible pain and suffering, and neither their sons nor their wives go along with them.
ਲੋਕਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਉਭੇ ਸਾਸ ॥
lokaa vich muhu kaalaa hoaa andar ubhe saas |
Their faces are blackened among men, and they sigh in deep regret.
ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਵਿਸਹੀ ਚੁਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਵੇਸਾਸੁ ॥
manamukhaa no ko na visahee chuk geaa vesaas |
No one places any reliance in the self-willed manmukhs; trust in them is lost.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
naanak guramukhaa no sukh agalaa jinaa antar naam nivaas |1|
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs live in absolute peace; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides within them. ||1||
