First Mehl:

ਅੰਧੀ ਕੰਮੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ ਤਨੁ ਅੰਧੁ ॥

andhee kamee andh man man andhai tan andh |

Acting blindly, the mind becomes blind. The blind mind makes the body blind.

ਚਿਕੜਿ ਲਾਇਐ ਕਿਆ ਥੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਥਰ ਬੰਧੁ ॥

chikarr laaeiai kiaa theeai jaan tuttai pathar bandh |

Why make a dam with mud and plaster? Even a dam made of stones gives way.

ਬੰਧੁ ਤੁਟਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਹੀ ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਨਾ ਹਾਥ ॥

bandh tuttaa berree nahee naa tulahaa naa haath |

The dam has burst. There is no boat. There is no raft. The water's depth is unfathomable.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਕੇਤੇ ਡੁਬੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੩॥

naanak sache naam vin kete ddube saath |3|

O Nanak, without the True Name, many multitudes have drowned. ||3||
