ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Malaar, Fifth Mehl:

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਹਿਰਾਨੋ ॥

bahu bidh maaeaa moh hiraano |

In so many ways, attachment to Maya leads to ruin.

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋਊ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਤੁ ਚਿਰਾਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kott madhe koaoo biralaa sevak pooran bhagat chiraano |1| rahaau |

Among millions, it is very rare to find a selfless servant who remains a perfect devotee for very long. ||1||Pause||

ਇਤ ਉਤ ਡੋਲਿ ਡੋਲਿ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਤ ਬਿਰਾਨੋ ॥

eit ut ddol ddol sram paaeo tan dhan hot biraano |

Roaming and wandering here and there, the mortal finds only trouble; his body and wealth become strangers to himself.

ਲੋਗ ਦੁਰਾਇ ਕਰਤ ਠਗਿਆਈ ਹੋਤੌ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੋ ॥੧॥

log duraae karat tthagiaaee hotau sang na jaano |1|

Hiding from people, he practices deception; he does not know the One who is always with him. ||1||

ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪੰਖੀ ਮੀਨ ਦੀਨ ਨੀਚ ਇਹ ਸੰਕਟ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਨੋ ॥

mrig pankhee meen deen neech ih sankatt fir aano |

He wanders through troubled incarnations of low and wretched species as a deer, a bird and a fish.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾਰਹੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨੋ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੧੫॥

kahu naanak paahan prabh taarahu saadhasangat sukh maano |2|11|15|

Says Nanak, O God, I am a stone - please carry me across, that I may enjoy peace in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||11||15||
