ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Wadahans, First Mehl:

ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿ ਕੂਕੇ ਕਾਇ ॥

gunavantee sahu raaviaa niragun kooke kaae |

The virtuous bride enjoys her Husband Lord; why does the unworthy one cry out?

ਜੇ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਥੀ ਰਹੈ ਤਾ ਭੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਣ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

je gunavantee thee rahai taa bhee sahu raavan jaae |1|

If she were to become virtuous, then she too could enjoy her Husband Lord. ||1||

ਮੇਰਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਕੀ ਧਨ ਅਵਰਾ ਰਾਵੇ ਜੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

meraa kant reesaaloo kee dhan avaraa raave jee |1| rahaau |

My Husband Lord is loving and playful; why should the soul-bride enjoy anyone else? ||1||Pause||

ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਮਣ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਗਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

karanee kaaman je theeai je man dhaagaa hoe |

If the soul-bride does good deeds, and strings them on the thread of her mind,

ਮਾਣਕੁ ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਲੀਜੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥੨॥

maanak mul na paaeeai leejai chit paroe |2|

she obtains the jewel, which cannot be purchased for any price, strung upon the thread of her consciousness. ||2||

ਰਾਹੁ ਦਸਾਈ ਨ ਜੁਲਾਂ ਆਖਾਂ ਅੰਮੜੀਆਸੁ ॥

raahu dasaaee na julaan aakhaan amarreeaas |

I ask, but do not follow the way shown to me; still, I claim to have reached my destination.

ਤੈ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਅਕੂਅਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਥੀਵੈ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥

tai seh naal akooanaa kiau theevai ghar vaas |3|

I do not speak with You, O my Husband Lord; how then can I come to have a place in Your home? ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

naanak ekee baaharaa doojaa naahee koe |

O Nanak, without the One Lord, there is no other at all.

ਤੈ ਸਹ ਲਗੀ ਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੨॥

tai seh lagee je rahai bhee sahu raavai soe |4|2|

If the soul-bride remains attached to You, then she shall enjoy her Husband Lord. ||4||2||
