ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਦੁਬਾਜਰਾ ਤਾਮੇ ਰੰਗਹੁ ਕੈਹਾਂ ਹੋਵੈ ।

dukheea dusatt dubaajaraa taame rangahu kaihaan hovai |

The evil double-talker is copper which looks like bronze.

ਬਾਹਰੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਉਜਲਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਸੁ ਨ ਧੋਪੈ ਧੋਵੈ ।

baahar disai ujalaa andar mas na dhopai dhovai |

Apparently, the bronze looks bright but even persisting washing cannot clean its inner blackness.

ਸੰਨੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਲੁਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਹੋਇ ਦੁਮੂਹੀਂ ਕੁਸੰਗ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ।

sanee jaan luhaar dee hoe dumooheen kusang vigovai |

The pliers of blacksmith is double mouthed but being in the bad company (of the blacksmith) it destroys itself.

ਖਿਣੁ ਤਤੀ ਆਰਣਿ ਵੜੈ ਖਿਣੁ ਠੰਢੀ ਜਲੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਟੋਵੈ ।

khin tatee aaran varrai khin tthandtee jal andar ttovai |

It goes in the hot furnance and the next moment it is put in cold water.

ਤੁਮਾ ਦਿਸੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਮਿਤਾਲਾ ਵਿਸੁ ਵਿਲੋਵੈ ।

tumaa dise sohanaa chitramitaalaa vis vilovai |

The colocynth gives a beautiful, piebald look but inside it remains poison.

ਸਾਉ ਨ ਕਉੜਾ ਸਹਿ ਸਕੈ ਜੀਭੈ ਛਾਲੈ ਅੰਝੂ ਰੋਵੈ ।

saau na kaurraa seh sakai jeebhai chhaalai anjhoo rovai |

Its bitter taste cannot be tolerated; it blisters the tongue and causes tears to trickle.

ਕਲੀ ਕਨੇਰ ਨ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੋਵੈ ।੧੧।
