ਪਾਰਸ ਪਥਰ ਸੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸਿ ਨ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ।

paaras pathar sang hai paaras paras na kanchan hovai |

Ordinary stone may be in contact with the philosopher's stone but it does not get transformed into gold.

ਹੀਰੇ ਮਾਣਕ ਪਥਰਹੁ ਪਥਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੋਵੈ ।

heere maanak patharahu pathar koe na haar parovai |

Diamonds and rubies are extracted from the stones but the latter cannot be stringed as a necklace.

ਵਟਿ ਜਵਾਹਰੁ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਵਿਕਾਇ ਸਮੋਵੈ ।

vatt javaahar toleeai mul na tul vikaae samovai |

The jewels are weighed with weights but the latter cannot equate in value with the jewels.

ਪਥਰ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਸੁਵੰਨੁ ਅਲੋਵੈ ।

pathar andar asatt dhaat paaras paras suvan alovai |

Eight metals (alloys) remain amidst stones but they convert into gold by the touch of philosopher's stone alone.

ਪਥਰੁ ਫਟਕ ਝਲਕਣਾ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਗੋਵੈ ।

pathar fattak jhalakanaa bahu rangee hoe rang na govai |

Crystal stone shines in many colours but still remains a mere stone.

ਪਥਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਸਾਉ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਆਪੁ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ।

pathar vaas na saau hai man katthor hoe aap vigovai |

Stone has neither fragrance nor taste; the hard-hearted one simply destroys itself.

ਕਰਿ ਮੂਰਖਾਈ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਰੋਵੈ ।੭।

kar moorakhaaee moorakh rovai |7|

The foolish goes on lamenting his own stupidity.
