ਭੂਪ ਬੰਦ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਿਜੁ ਸੁਤਹਿ ਗਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਿਯੋ ਪਠਾਇ ॥

bhoop band grih nij suteh geh kar diyo patthaae |

The Monarch caught hold of his son and sent him to the prison, And

ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਸਮੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਲਿਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

praat samai mantree sahit bahuro liyo bulaae |1|

In the morning, through the Minister, called him back.(1)

ਰੀਝ ਰਾਇ ਐਸੇ ਕਹ︀ਯੋ ਬਚਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਸੰਗ ॥

reejh raae aise kehayo bachan mantriyan sang |

Then he asked the Minster to narrate the Chritars

ਪੁਰਖ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਚਤੁਰਨ ਚਰਿਤ ਮੋ ਸੋ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ॥੨॥

purakh triyan chaturan charit mo so karahu prasang |2|

Of the wise men and the women -2

ਤੀਰ ਸਤੁਦ੍ਰਵ ਕੇ ਹੁਤੋ ਪੁਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਇਕ ਗਾਉ ॥

teer satudrav ke huto pur anand ik gaau |

On the banks of the river Sutlaj, there was a village by the name of Anadpur.

ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਤੁੰਗ ਕੇ ਢਿਗ ਬਸਤ ਕਾਹਲੂਰ ਕੇ ਠਾਉ ॥੩॥

netr tung ke dtig basat kaahaloor ke tthaau |3|

It was situated near Naina Devi which situated was in the state of Kahloor.(3)

ਤਹਾ ਸਿਖ ਸਾਖਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਵਤ ਮੋਦ ਬਢਾਇ ॥

tahaa sikh saakhaa bahut aavat mod badtaae |

There used to come several Sikhs with great pleasure,

ਮਨ ਬਾਛਤ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਗ ਬਰ ਜਾਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਨ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥

man baachhat mukh maag bar jaat grihan sukh paae |4|

And after getting their ambitions fulfilled, they used to go back to their homes.(4)

ਏਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਕੀ ਤੌਨ ਨਗਰ ਮੈ ਆਨਿ ॥

ek triyaa dhanavant kee tauan nagar mai aan |

The wife of a rich-man came to that town.

ਹੇਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਪੀੜਤ ਭਈ ਬਿਧੀ ਬਿਰਹ ਕੇ ਬਾਨ ॥੫॥

her raae peerrat bhee bidhee birah ke baan |5|

She fell for the Raja and was pierced with his love arrows.(5)

ਮਗਨ ਦਾਸ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੋ ਤਿਨ ਲਿਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥

magan daas taa ko huto so tin liyo bulaae |

She had a servant, Magan Das whom she called,

ਕਛੁਕ ਦਰਬ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਦਿਯੋ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੬॥

kachhuk darab taa ko diyo aise kahiyo banaae |6|

And gave him some money and made him to understand like this.( 6)

ਨਗਰ ਰਾਇ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਬਸਤ ਤਾਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥

nagar raae tumaro basat taeh milaavahu mohi |

‘You get me to meet the Raja,

ਤਾਹਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਦੈਹੋ ਤੁਝੈ ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬ ਲੈ ਤੋਹਿ ॥੭॥

taeh mile daiho tujhai amit darab lai tohi |7|

‘And after encountering him 1 will give you lot of wealth.’(7)

ਮਗਨ ਲੋਭ ਧਨ ਕੇ ਲਗੇ ਆਨਿ ਰਾਵ ਕੇ ਪਾਸ ॥

magan lobh dhan ke lage aan raav ke paas |

Becoming greedy for money, Magan came to the Raja,

ਪਰਿ ਪਾਇਨ ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਿਯ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੮॥

par paaein kar jor kar ih bidh kiy aradaas |8|

Fell on his feet and requested thus,(8)

ਸਿਖ︀ਯੋ ਚਹਤ ਜੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਤੁਮ ਸੋ ਆਯੋ ਮੁਰ ਹਾਥ ॥

sikhayo chehat jo mantr tum so aayo mur haath |

‘The incantation you wanted to learn, has come in my possession.

ਕਹੈ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੋ ਕੀਜਿਯਹੁ ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੯॥

kahai tumai so keejiyahu ju kachh tuhaare saath |9|

‘To learn the same you will have to proceed the way I ask.(9)
