ਸਤੂਅਨ ਕਰੀ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ਦੰਤਨ ਚਾਬੇ ਕੋਇ ॥

satooan karee banaae kai dantan chaabe koe |

‘He had told me that whosoever ate the curry made out of barleymeal,

ਤਾ ਕੌ ਗੈਵਰ ਮਤ ਕੋ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥

taa kau gaivar mat ko kabahoon traas na hoe |8|

‘He would never be frightened ofthe elephant.’ (8)

ਫੂਲਿ ਗਯੋ ਜੜ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਪਾਇ ॥

fool gayo jarr baat sun bhed na sakiyo paae |

He was pleased after listening to this flattery, but did not comprehend the real secret

ਸਤੂਅਨ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲਯੋ ਬਚਾਇ ॥੯॥

satooan karee turaae kai muhi triy layo bachaae |9|

And thought, ‘With the curry of barley-meal the woman has saved my life.’(9)(1)
