ਮਰਗ ਜੌਹਡੇ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਏਕ ਪਠਾਨੀ ਨਾਰ ॥

In the city of Marg Johda, a woman of Path an decent used to live.

ਬੈਰਮ ਖਾ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਭਰਤਾ ਅਤਿ ਸੁਭ ਕਾਰ ॥੧॥

bairam khaa taa ko rahai bharataa at subh kaar |1|

Bairam Khan was her husband who always revelled in good causes.(1)

ਤਵਨ ਪਠਾਨੀ ਕੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਨਾਮ ਗੌਹਰਾ ਰਾਇ ॥

tavan patthaanee ko huto naam gauaharaa raae |

The name of the Pathani, the Pathan’s woman, was Gohraan Raae,

ਜਾਨੁ ਕਨਕ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਿਕਾ ਬਿਧਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੨॥

jaan kanak kee putrikaa bidhanaa rachee banaae |2|

And she was, as if, the creation of Brahma, the God, Himself.(2)

ਅਰਿ ਬਲੁ ਕੈ ਆਵਤ ਭਏ ਤਾ ਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਦਲ ਜੋਰਿ ॥

ar bal kai aavat bhe taa pai at dal jor |

The enemy raided with great force and power,

ਦੈ ਹੈ ਯਾਹਿ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਲੈ ਹੈ ਦੇਸ ਮਰੋਰਿ ॥੩॥

dai hai yaeh nikaar kai lai hai des maror |3|

To capture the country and took her away.(3)
