ਬੰਦਿਸਾਲ ਕੋ ਭੂਪ ਤਬ ਨਿਜੁ ਸੁਤ ਦਿਯੋ ਪਠਾਇ ॥

bandisaal ko bhoop tab nij sut diyo patthaae |

The Raja had put the son in the prison.

ਭੋਰ ਹੋਤ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਬਹੁਰੋ ਲਿਯੌ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

bhor hot mantree sahit bahuro liyau bulaae |1|

And early next morning he called him over.(l)

ਪੁਨਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਐਸੇ ਕਹੀ ਏਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ॥

pun mantree aise kahee ek triyaa kee baat |

The Minister, then, narrated to him the story of a woman.

ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰੀਝਤ ਭਯੋ ਕਹੋ ਕਹੋ ਮੁਹਿ ਤਾਤ ॥੨॥

so sun nrip reejhat bhayo kaho kaho muhi taat |2|

Hearing the story, the Raja was enthralled, and requested it to be retold.(2)

ਏਕ ਬਧੂ ਥੀ ਜਾਟ ਕੀ ਦੂਜੇ ਬਰੀ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

ek badhoo thee jaatt kee dooje baree gavaar |

A peasant had a (pretty) wife she was trammelled by that idiotic.

ਖੇਲਿ ਅਖੇਟਕ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਇਕ ਆਨਿ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਯਾਰ ॥੩॥

khel akhettak nripat ik aan bhayo tih yaar |3|

But a Raja on a hunting spree fell in love with her.(3)
