ਉਜਲ ਕੈਹਾਂ ਚਿਲਕਣਾ ਥਾਲੀ ਜੇਵਣਿ ਜੂਠੀ ਹੋਵੈ ।
aujal kaihaan chilakanaa thaalee jevan jootthee hovai |
The bronze appears shining and bright. After the food eaten from the bronze-plate, it becomes impure.
ਜੂਠਿ ਸੁਆਹੂ ਮਾਂਜੀਐ ਗੰਗਾ ਜਲ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲੈ ਧੋਵੈ ।
jootth suaahoo maanjeeai gangaa jal andar lai dhovai |
Its impurity is cleaned by ashes and then it is washed in the water of Ganges.
ਬਾਹਰੁ ਸੁਚਾ ਧੋਤਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਾਲਖ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ।
baahar suchaa dhotiaan andar kaalakh ant vigovai |
Washing cleans externally but the blackness goes on to remain inside the inner core of heat.
ਮਨਿ ਜੂਠੇ ਤਨਿ ਜੂਠਿ ਹੈ ਥੁਕਿ ਪਵੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਵਜੈ ਰੋਵੈ ।
man jootthe tan jootth hai thuk pavai muhi vajai rovai |
The conch is impure outwardly and internally both because when blown, the spit goes in it. When it chimes, in fact it weeps because of the impurities in it.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਪਟ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਗਲਾਂ ਗੋਵੈ ।
saadhasangat gur sabad sun kapatt sanehee galaan govai |

ਗਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਖੰਡੁ ਖੰਡੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਭੋਵੈ ।

But by mere talking, none gets satisfied, as by mere uttering word sugar one cannot have his mouth sweet.
ਮਖਨੁ ਖਾਇ ਨ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਿਲੋਵੈ ।੧੭।

If one is to eat butter, one should not go churning water, i.e. mere talks cannot produce the right results.
