ਉਤਮ ਮਧਮ ਨੀਚ ਲਖ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨੀਚਹੁ ਨੀਚ ਸਦਾਏ ।

autam madham neech lakh guramukh neechahu neech sadaae |

Millions are low, medium and high but gurmukh calls himself low of the lowly.

ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ ਪਾ ਖਾਕੁ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ।

pairee pai paa khaak hoe guramukh gurasikh aap gavaae |

He becoming dust of the feet and guru’s disciple erases his ego.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਏ ।

saadhasangat bhau bhaau kar sevak sevaa kaar kamaae |

Going with love and respect to the holy congregation, he serves there.

ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਣ ਨਿਵ ਚਲਣੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਭਲਾ ਮਨਾਏ ।

mitthaa bolan niv chalan hathahu de kai bhalaa manaae |

He speaks mildly, behaves humbly and even by giving something to somebody wishes good of others.

ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲੀਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਣ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਾਏ ।

sabad surat liv leen hoe daragah maan nimaanaa paae |

Absorbing consciousness into the Word that humble person receives honour in the court of the Lord.

ਚਲਣੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਅਜਾਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਵਲਾਏ ।

chalan jaan ajaan hoe aasaa vich niraas valaae |

Considering death as the last truth and becoming unknown to cunningness he remains indifferent to hopes and desires.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਏ ।੨੪।੮। ਅਠਿ ।

The imperceptible fruit of delight is seen and received only by Gurmukh.
