ਅਥ ਸੀਤਾ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

Now begins the description of the Swayyamvara of Sita :

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਰਚਯੋ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਸੀਤਾ ॥

rachayo suyanbar seetaa |

ਮਹਾ ਸੁਧ ਗੀਤਾ ॥

mahaa sudh geetaa |

The day of the Swayyamvara of Sita was fixed, who was extremely pure like Gita.

ਬਿਧੰ ਚਾਰ ਬੈਣੀ ॥

bidhan chaar bainee |

ਮ੍ਰਿਗੀ ਰਾਜ ਨੈਣੀ ॥੯੬॥

mrigee raaj nainee |96|

Her words were winsome like those of the nightingale. She had eyes like the eyes of the king of deer.96.

ਸੁਣਯੋ ਮੋਨਨੇਸੰ ॥

sunayo monanesan |

ਚਤੁਰ ਚਾਰ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

chatur chaar desan |

The chief sage Vishwamitra had heard about it.

ਲਯੋ ਸੰਗ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

layo sang raaman |

ਚਲਯੋ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮੰ ॥੯੭॥

chalayo dharam dhaaman |97|

He took with his Ram, the wise and beautiful Youngman of the country and went (to Jankpuri), the abode of righteousness.97.

ਸੁਨੋ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

suno raam piaare |

ਚਲੋ ਸਾਥ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

chalo saath hamaare |

“O dear Ram, listen, accompany me there

ਸੀਆ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਕੀਨੋ ॥

seea suyanbar keeno |

ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ਬੋਲ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੯੮॥

nripan bol leeno |98|

“The Swayyamvara of Sita has been fixed and the king (Janak) has called us.98.

ਤਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਜਈਐ ॥

tahaa praat jeeai |

ਸੀਆ ਜੀਤ ਲਈਐ ॥

seea jeet leeai |

“We may go there at day-dawn and conquer Sita

ਕਹੀ ਮਾਨ ਮੇਰੀ ॥

kahee maan meree |

ਬਨੀ ਬਾਤ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੯੯॥

banee baat teree |99|

“Obey my saying, now it is upto you.99.

ਬਲੀ ਪਾਨ ਬਾਕੇ ॥

balee paan baake |

ਨਿਪਾਤੋ ਪਿਨਾਕੇ ॥

nipaato pinaake |

“With your beautiful and strong hands, break the bow

ਸੀਆ ਜੀਤ ਆਨੋ ॥

seea jeet aano |

ਹਨੋ ਸਰਬ ਦਾਨੋ ॥੧੦੦॥

hano sarab daano |100|

“Conquer and bring Sita and destroy all the demons.”100.

ਚਲੇ ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗੰ ॥

chale raam sangan |

ਸੁਹਾਏ ਨਿਖੰਗੰ ॥

suhaae nikhangan |

He (the sage) went with Ram and the quiver (of Ram) seemed impressive.

ਭਏ ਜਾਇ ਠਾਢੇ ॥

bhe jaae tthaadte |

ਮਹਾ ਮੋਦ ਬਾਢੇ ॥੧੦੧॥

mahaa mod baadte |101|

They went an stood there, their delight extended extremely.101.

ਪੁਰੰ ਨਾਰ ਦੇਖੈ ॥

puran naar dekhai |

ਸਹੀ ਕਾਮ ਲੇਖੈ ॥

sahee kaam lekhai |

The women of the city look (toward Ram), they considered him Kamdev (Cupid) in reality.

ਰਿਪੰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

ripan satru jaanai |

ਸਿਧੰ ਸਾਧ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧੦੨॥

sidhan saadh maanai |102|

The inimical participants comprehend him as an enemy and the saintly persons consider him a saint.102.

ਸਿਸੰ ਬਾਲ ਰੂਪੰ ॥

sisan baal roopan |

ਲਹਯੋ ਭੂਪ ਭੂਪੰ ॥

lahayo bhoop bhoopan |

For children he is a boy, the kings consider him a king.

ਤਪਯੋ ਪਉਨ ਹਾਰੀ ॥

tapayo paun haaree |

ਭਰੰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧੦੩॥

bharan sasatr dhaaree |103|

The ascetics look towards him as Shiva, with sustenance of air, and the bard considers him a weapons-wielder.103.

ਨਿਸਾ ਚੰਦ ਜਾਨਯੋ ॥

nisaa chand jaanayo |

ਦਿਨੰ ਭਾਨ ਮਾਨਯੋ ॥

dinan bhaan maanayo |

For the night he is the moon and for day he is the sun.

ਗਣੰ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਰੇਖਯੋ ॥

ganan rudr rekhayo |

ਸੁਰੰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਖਯੋ ॥੧੦੪॥

suran indr dekhayo |104|

The Ganas marked him as Rudra and the gods saw him as Indra.104.

ਸ੍ਰੁਤੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜਾਨਯੋ ॥

srutan braham jaanayo |

ਦਿਜੰ ਬਯਾਸ ਮਾਨਯੋ ॥

dijan bayaas maanayo |

The Vedas comprehended him as Brahman, the Brahmins considered him as Vyas.

ਹਰੀ ਬਿਸਨ ਲੇਖੇ ॥

haree bisan lekhe |

ਸੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਦੇਖੇ ॥੧੦੫॥

seea raam dekhe |105|

Vishnu visualized him as the Immanent Lord, and Sita sees him as Ram.105.

ਸੀਆ ਪੇਖ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

seea pekh raaman |

ਬਿਧੀ ਬਾਣ ਕਾਮੰ ॥

bidhee baan kaaman |

Sita looks towards him as Ram, being pierced by Cupid’s arrow.

ਗਿਰੀ ਝੂਮਿ ਭੂਮੰ ॥

giree jhoom bhooman |

ਮਦੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਘੂਮੰ ॥੧੦੬॥

madee jaan ghooman |106|

She fell down swinging on the earth like a roaming drunkeard.106.

ਉਠੀ ਚੇਤ ਐਸੇ ॥

autthee chet aise |

ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥

mahaabeer jaise |

She gained consciousness and arose like a great warrior.

ਰਹੀ ਨੈਨ ਜੋਰੀ ॥

rahee nain joree |

ਸਸੰ ਜਿਉ ਚਕੋਰੀ ॥੧੦੭॥

sasan jiau chakoree |107|

She kept her eyes concentrated like that off a Chakori (a hill bird) on the moon.107.

ਰਹੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੋਨੋ ॥

rahe moh dono |

ਟਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਨੋ ॥

ttare naeh kono |

Both were attached to each other and none on them faltered.

ਰਹੇ ਠਾਢ ਐਸੇ ॥

rahe tthaadt aise |

ਰਣੰ ਬੀਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੧੦੮॥

ranan beer jaise |108|

They stood firmly like the warrior in the battlefield.108.

ਪਠੇ ਕੋਟ ਦੂਤੰ ॥

patthe kott dootan |

ਚਲੇ ਪਉਨ ਪੂਤੰ ॥

chale paun pootan |

The messengers were sent in the fort who went swiftly like Hanuman, the son of wind-god.

ਕੁਵੰਡਾਨ ਡਾਰੇ ॥

kuvanddaan ddaare |

ਨਰੇਸੋ ਦਿਖਾਰੇ ॥੧੦੯॥

nareso dikhaare |109|

The saw was placed after showing it to the gathered kings.109.

ਲਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਪਾਨੰ ॥

layo raam paanan |

ਭਰਯੋ ਬੀਰ ਮਾਨੰ ॥

bharayo beer maanan |

Ram took it in his hand, the hero (Ram) was filled with pride.

ਹਸਯੋ ਐਚ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

hasayo aich leeno |

ਉਭੈ ਟੂਕ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੧੧੦॥

aubhai ttook keeno |110|

He pulled it smilingly and broke it into two parts.110.

ਸਭੈ ਦੇਵ ਹਰਖੇ ॥

sabhai dev harakhe |

ਘਨੰ ਪੁਹਪ ਬਰਖੇ ॥

ghanan puhap barakhe |

All the gods were pleased and a loot of flowers were showered.

ਲਜਾਨੇ ਨਰੇਸੰ ॥

lajaane naresan |

ਚਲੇ ਆਪ ਦੇਸੰ ॥੧੧੧॥

chale aap desan |111|

Other kings felt shy and went back to their countries.111.

ਤਬੈ ਰਾਜ ਕੰਨਿਆ ॥

tabai raaj kaniaa |

ਤਿਹੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਧੰਨਿਆ ॥

tihoon lok dhaniaa |

Then the princess, the most fortunate in three worlds.

ਧਰੇ ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲਾ ॥

dhare fool maalaa |

ਬਰਿਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੧੧੨॥

bariyo raam baalaa |112|

Garlanded Ram and wedded him as her spouse.112.
