ਤੋਮਰ ਛੰਦ ॥ ਤ੍ਵਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

TOMAR STANZA BY THY GRACE

ਪੁਨ ਭਏ ਮੁਨੀ ਛਿਤ ਰਾਇ ॥

pun bhe munee chhit raae |

Then Muni became the king of the earth

ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

eih lok kehar raae |

The Lion-King of this world.

ਅਰਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਅਖੰਡ ॥

ar jeet jeet akhandd |

By conquering the unbreakable enemies,

ਮਹਿ ਕੀਨ ਰਾਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥੧॥੩੨੦॥

meh keen raaj prachandd |1|320|

He ruled gloriously over the earth.1.320.

ਅਰਿ ਘਾਇ ਘਾਇ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

ar ghaae ghaae anek |

He killed many enemies,

ਰਿਪੁ ਛਾਡੀਯੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਏਕ ॥

rip chhaaddeeyo naheen ek |

And did not leave even one of them alive.

ਅਨਖੰਡ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

anakhandd raaj kamaae |

He then ruled uninterrupted.

ਛਿਤ ਛੀਨ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥੨॥੩੨੧॥

chhit chheen chhatr firaae |2|321|

He sized other lands and held the canopy over his head.2.321.

ਅਨਖੰਡ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

anakhandd roop apaar |

He was person of superb and perfect beauty

ਅਨਮੰਡ ਰਾਜ ਜੁਝਾਰ ॥

anamandd raaj jujhaar |

An impetuous warrior-king

ਅਬਿਕਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥

abikaar roop prachandd |

Glory-incarnate and devoid-king

ਅਨਖੰਡ ਰਾਜ ਅਮੰਡ ॥੩॥੩੨੨॥

anakhandd raaj amandd |3|322|

The Sovereign of undivided and imperishable kingdom.3.322.

ਬਹੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥

bahu jeet jeet nripaal |

Conquering many kings,

ਬਹੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਸਰ ਜਾਲ ॥

bahu chhaadd kai sar jaal |

And shooting many arrows,

ਅਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

ar maar maar anant |

Killing innumerable enemies,

ਛਿਤ ਕੀਨ ਰਾਜ ਦੁਰੰਤ ॥੪॥੩੨੩॥

chhit keen raaj durant |4|323|

He established immeasurable kingdom on the earth.4.323.

ਬਹੁ ਰਾਜ ਭਾਗ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

bahu raaj bhaag kamaae |

Ruling the prosperous kingdom for a long time,

ਇਮ ਬੋਲੀਓ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਇ ॥

eim boleeo nriparaae |

The king of kings said thus

ਇਕ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਮਖਸਾਲ ॥

eik keejeeai makhasaal |

“Prepare and altar for sacrifice,

ਦਿਜ ਬੋਲਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਤਾਲ ॥੫॥੩੨੪॥

dij bol lehu utaal |5|324|

“And call the Brahmins quickly.”5.324.

ਦਿਜ ਬੋਲਿ ਲੀਨ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

dij bol leen anek |

Many Brahmins were then invited.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਛਾਡੀਓ ਨਹੀ ਏਕ ॥

grih chhaaddeeo nahee ek |

None of them was left at his home.

ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਨ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥

mil mantr keen bichaar |

The consulation with ministers and Brahmins began.

ਮਤਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਉਚਾਰ ॥੬॥੩੨੫॥

mat mitr mantr uchaar |6|325|

The sagacious friend and ministers began to recite mantras.6.325.

ਤਬ ਬੋਲਿਓ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਾਇ ॥

tab bolio nrip raae |

Then the king of king said,

ਕਰਿ ਜਗ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਇ ॥

kar jag ko chit chaae |

“There is incentive in my mind for a sacrifice

ਕਿਵ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਮਖਸਾਲ ॥

kiv keejeeai makhasaal |

“What type of sacrificial altar be prepared?

ਕਹੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਲ ॥੭॥੩੨੬॥

kahu mantr mitr utaal |7|326|

“O my friends, tell me quickly.”7.326.

ਤਬ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੀਨ ॥

tab mantr mitran keen |

Then the friends consulted one another.

ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੰਗ ਯਉ ਕਹਿ ਦੀਨ ॥

nrip sang yau keh deen |

They told the king like this:

ਸੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਉਦਾਰ ॥

sun raaj raaj udaar |

O generous monarch, listen,

ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੮॥੩੨੭॥

das chaar chaar apaar |8|327|

“Thou art very sagacious in all the fourteen worlds.8.327.

ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਮੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

satijug mai sun raae |

“Listen, O king, in Satyuga,

ਮਖ ਕੀਨ ਚੰਡ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

makh keen chandd banaae |

“The goddess Chandi had performed the sacrifice

ਅਰਿ ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਮਹਿਖੇਸ ॥

ar maar kai mahikhes |

“By killing the enemy, the demon Mahishasura,

ਬਹੁ ਤੋਖ ਕੀਨ ਪਸੇਸ ॥੯॥੩੨੮॥

bahu tokh keen pases |9|328|

“She had pleased Shiva greatly”9.328.

ਮਹਿਖੇਸ ਕਉ ਰਣ ਘਾਇ ॥

mahikhes kau ran ghaae |

After killing Mahishasura in the battlefield,

ਸਿਰਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥

sir indr chhatr firaae |

The canopy was held over the head of Indra.

ਕਰਿ ਤੋਖ ਜੋਗਨਿ ਸਰਬ ॥

kar tokh jogan sarab |

She had pleased all the vamps,

ਕਰਿ ਦੂਰ ਦਾਨਵ ਗਰਬ ॥੧੦॥੩੨੯॥

kar door daanav garab |10|329|

And effaced the pride of the demons.10.329.

ਮਹਿਖੇਸ ਕਉ ਰਣਿ ਜੀਤਿ ॥

mahikhes kau ran jeet |

After conquering Mahishasura in the battlefield.

ਦਿਜ ਦੇਵ ਕੀਨ ਅਭੀਤ ॥

dij dev keen abheet |

She had made the Brahmins and gods fearless

ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸੇਸ ਲੀਨ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥

tridases leen bulaae |

She called the god Indra,

ਛਿਤ ਛੀਨ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥੧੧॥੩੩੦॥

chhit chheen chhatr firaae |11|330|

And seizing the earth from Mahishasura, she held the canopy over his head.11.330.

ਮੁਖਚਾਰ ਲੀਨ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥

mukhachaar leen bulaae |

She called the four-headed Brahma,

ਚਿਤ ਚਉਪ ਸਿਉ ਜਗ ਮਾਇ ॥

chit chaup siau jag maae |

With her heart’s desire, she (the mother of the world),

ਕਰਿ ਜਗ ਕੋ ਆਰੰਭ ॥

kar jag ko aaranbh |

Began the performance of the sacrifice

ਅਨਖੰਡ ਤੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥੧੨॥੩੩੧॥

anakhandd tej prachandd |12|331|

She had indivisible and powerful glory.12.331.

ਤਬ ਬੋਲੀਯੋ ਮੁਖ ਚਾਰ ॥

tab boleeyo mukh chaar |

Then the four-headed Brahma spoke,

ਸੁਨਿ ਚੰਡਿ ਚੰਡ ਜੁਹਾਰ ॥

sun chandd chandd juhaar |

“Listen, O Chandi, I bow in obeisance to thee,

ਜਿਮ ਹੋਇ ਆਇਸ ਮੋਹਿ ॥

jim hoe aaeis mohi |

“Just as thou hast asked me,

ਤਿਮ ਭਾਖਊ ਮਤ ਤੋਹਿ ॥੧੩॥੩੩੨॥

tim bhaakhaoo mat tohi |13|332|

“In the same way, I advise thee.”13.322.

ਜਗ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

jag jeea jant apaar |

The innumerable beings and creatures of the world,

ਨਿਜ ਲੀਨ ਦੇਵ ਹਕਾਰ ॥

nij leen dev hakaar |

The goddess herself called them to come,

ਅਰਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਪਲ ਖੰਡ ॥

ar kaatt kai pal khandd |

And within her enemies she cut them in an instant.

ਪੜਿ ਬੇਦ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਉਦੰਡ ॥੧੪॥੩੩੩॥

parr bed mantr udandd |14|333|

With her loud voice she recited the Vedic mantras and performed the sacrifice.14.333.
