Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੇ ਖਾਟਿ ਖਾਟੁਲੀ ॥

kahaa kareh re khaatt khaattulee |

Why are you working so hard to earn profits?

ਪਵਨਿ ਅਫਾਰ ਤੋਰ ਚਾਮਰੋ ਅਤਿ ਜਜਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਰੇ ਮਾਟੁਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

pavan afaar tor chaamaro at jajaree teree re maattulee |1| rahaau |

You are puffed up like a bag of air, and your skin is very brittle. Your body has grown old and dusty. ||1||Pause||

ਊਹੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿਓ ਊਹਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਸਾ ਮਾਸ ਦੇਤ ਝਾਟੁਲੀ ॥

aoohee te hario aoohaa le dhario jaise baasaa maas det jhaattulee |

You move things from here to there, like the hawk swooping down on the flesh of its prey.

ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਸਫਰੀ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰੈ ਬਹਿ ਹਾਟੁਲੀ ॥੧॥

devanahaar bisaario andhule jiau safaree udar bharai beh haattulee |1|

You are blind - you have forgotten the Great Giver. You fill your belly like a traveller at an inn. ||1||

ਸਾਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਝੂਠ ਰਸ ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਤਹ ਭੀਰ ਬਾਟੁਲੀ ॥

saad bikaar bikaar jhootth ras jeh jaano teh bheer baattulee |

You are entangled in the taste of false pleasures and corrupt sins; the path which you have to take is very narrow.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਝੁ ਰੇ ਇਆਨੇ ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਖੁਲੑੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਾਂਠੁਲੀ ॥੨॥੩੮॥੬੧॥

kahu naanak samajh re eaane aaj kaal khulai teree gaantthulee |2|38|61|

Says Nanak: figure it out, you ignorant fool! Today or tomorrow, the knot will be untied! ||2||38||61||
