Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਰੇ ਮੂੜੑੇ ਤੂ ਕਿਉ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਬ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

re moorrae too kiau simarat ab naahee |

You fool, why are you not meditating on the Lord now?

ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਤਪੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

narak ghor meh uradh tap karataa nimakh nimakh gun gaanhee |1| rahaau |

In the awful hell of the fire of the womb, you did penance, upside-down; each and every instant, you sang His Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause||

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੌ ਹੀ ਆਇਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲਭਾਹੀ ॥

anik janam bhramatau hee aaeo maanas janam dulabhaahee |

You wandered through countless incarnations, until finally you attained this priceless human birth.

ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਜਉ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਤਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਅਨ ਠਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥

garabh jon chhodd jau nikasio tau laago an tthaanhee |1|

Leaving the womb, you were born, and when you came out, you became attached to other places. ||1||

ਕਰਹਿ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਠਗਾਈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥

kareh buraaee tthagaaee din rain nihafal karam kamaahee |

You practiced evil and fraud day and night, and did useless deeds.

ਕਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਹ ਗਾਹਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਂਹੀ ॥੨॥

kan naahee tuh gaahan laage dhaae dhaae dukh paanhee |2|

You thrash the straw, but it has no wheat; running around and hurrying, you obtain only pain. ||2||

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਉਰਝਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਕੁਸਮਾਂਹੀ ॥

mithiaa sang koorr lapattaaeo urajh pario kusamaanhee |

The false person is attached to falsehood; he is entangled with transitory things.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਬ ਪਕਰਸਿ ਬਵਰੇ ਤਉ ਕਾਲ ਮੁਖਾ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੩॥

dharam raae jab pakaras bavare tau kaal mukhaa utth jaahee |3|

And when the Righteous Judge of Dharma seizes you, O madman, you shall arise and depart with your face blackened. ||3||

ਸੋ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਂਹੀ ॥

so miliaa jo prabhoo milaaeaa jis masatak lekh likhaanhee |

He alone meets with God, whom God Himself meets, by such pre-ordained destiny written on his forehead.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨੑ ਜਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਅਲਿਪ ਰਹੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬॥

kahu naanak tina jan balihaaree jo alip rahe man maanhee |4|2|16|

Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to that humble being, who remains unattached within his mind. ||4||2||16||
