ਅਥ ਮਾਖਨ ਚੁਰਾਇ ਖੈਬੋ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

ਖੇਲਨ ਕੇ ਮਿਸ ਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਘਰਿ ਭੀਤਰ ਪੈਠਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਖਨ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
khelan ke mis pai har jee ghar bheetar paitth kai maakhan khaavai |
ਨੈਨਨ ਸੈਨ ਤਬੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਗੋਪਿਨ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸੁ ਖੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
nainan sain tabai kar kai sabh gopin ko tab hee su khulaavai |
With the pretence of playing Krishna is eating butter within the house and with the signs of his eyes, he is calling other gopa children asking them to eat
ਬਾਕੀ ਬਚਿਯੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਨਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
baakee bachiyo apane kar lai kar baanar ke mukh bheetar paavai |
They are offering the remaining butter to monkeys causing them to eat
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਇਹ ਕੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਗੋਪਿਨ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਖਿਝਾਵੈ ॥੧੨੩॥
sayaam kahai tih kee upamaa ih kai bidh gopin kaanrah khijhaavai |123|
The poet Shyam says that in this way Krishna is annoying the gopis.123.
ਖਾਇ ਗਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਜਬ ਮਾਖਨ ਤਉ ਗੁਪੀਆ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ਪੁਕਾਰੀ ॥
khaae gayo har jee jab maakhan tau gupeea sabh jaae pukaaree |
When Krishna ate all the butter, the gopis cried and
ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੋ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਤੁਮ ਡਾਰ ਦਈ ਦਧਿ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਖਾਰੀ ॥
baat suno pat kee patanee tum ddaar dee dadh kee sabh khaaree |
Said to Nand’s wife Yashoda that Krishna had caused all the vessels to fall down
ਕਾਨਹਿ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਚੋਰ ਕੈ ਰਾਖਤ ਹੈ ਚੜਿ ਊਚ ਅਟਾਰੀ ॥
kaaneh ke ddar te ham chor kai raakhat hai charr aooch attaaree |
“Because of the fear of Krishna, we keep the butter at a higher place,
ਊਖਲ ਕੋ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਨਹਾ ਪਰ ਖਾਤ ਹੈ ਲੰਗਰ ਦੈ ਕਰਿ ਗਾਰੀ ॥੧੨੪॥
aookhal ko dhar kai manahaa par khaat hai langar dai kar gaaree |124|
But still he, with the support of mortars, gets high up and abusing us eats the butter alongwith other children.”124.
ਹੋਤ ਨਹੀ ਜਿਹ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਮੈ ਦਧਿ ਦੈ ਕਰਿ ਗਾਰਨ ਸੋਰ ਕਰੈ ਹੈ ॥
hot nahee jih ke ghar mai dadh dai kar gaaran sor karai hai |
“O Yashoda! The person in whose house they do not get butter, there they raising noises, call bad names
ਜੋ ਲਰਕਾ ਜਨਿ ਕੈ ਖਿਝ ਹੈ ਜਨ ਤੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋਟਨ ਸਾਥ ਮਰੈ ਹੈ ॥
jo larakaa jan kai khijh hai jan to mil sottan saath marai hai |
If someone gets angry with them, considering them as boys, they then beat him with their clubs
ਆਇ ਪਰੈ ਜੁ ਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਸਿਰ ਕੇ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਰ ਉਖਾਰ ਡਰੈ ਹੈ ॥
aae parai ju treea tih pai sir ke tih baar ukhaar ddarai hai |
“Besides this if some woman comes and tries to reprimand them, then they all pull down her hair and
ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੋ ਜਸੁਦਾ ਸੁਤ ਕੀ ਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਤਪਾਤ ਨ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਟਰੈ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੫॥
baat suno jasudaa sut kee su binaa utapaat na kaanrah ttarai hai |125|
O Yashoda! Listen to the behavious of your son, he does not comply without conflict.”125.
ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਜਬ ਗੋਪਿਨ ਕੀ ਜਸੁਦਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਖਿਝੀ ਹੈ ॥
baat sunee jab gopin kee jasudaa tab hee man maeh khijhee hai |
Hearing the words of the gopis, Yashoda became angry in her mind,
ਆਇ ਗਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਿਖਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਕੌ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਿਝੀ ਹੈ ॥
aae gayo har jee tab hee pikh putreh kau man maeh rijhee hai |
But when Krishna came home, she was delighted to see him
ਬੋਲ ਉਠੇ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਤਬੈ ਇਹ ਗਵਾਰ ਖਿਝਾਵਨ ਮੋਹਿ ਗਿਝੀ ਹੈ ॥
bol utthe nand laal tabai ih gavaar khijhaavan mohi gijhee hai |
ਮਾਤ ਕਹਾ ਦਧਿ ਦੋਸੁ ਲਗਾਵਤ ਮਾਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਿਝੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੬॥
maat kahaa dadh dos lagaavat maar binaa ih naeh sijhee hai |126|
Krishna said on coming, “These milkmaids annoy me very much, they are blaming me only for curd, they will not get right without beating.”126.
ਮਾਤ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਸੁਤ ਕੋ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਖਿਝਾਵਤ ਗੋਪੀ ॥
maat kahiyo apane sut ko kahu kiau kar tohi khijhaavat gopee |
ਮਾਤ ਸੌ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੀ ਸੁਤ ਯੌ ਕਰਿ ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਭਾਗਤ ਹੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਟੋਪੀ ॥
maat sau baat kahee sut yau kar so geh bhaagat hai muhi ttopee |
The mother asked the son, “Alright son! Tell me, hoe do these gopis annoy you?” Then the son said to the mother, “They all run away with my cap,
ਡਾਰ ਕੈ ਨਾਸ ਬਿਖੈ ਅੰਗੁਰੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਮੁਝ ਕੋ ਵਹ ਥੋਪੀ ॥
ddaar kai naas bikhai anguree sir maarat hai mujh ko veh thopee |
ਨਾਕ ਘਸਾਇ ਹਸਾਇ ਉਨੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਤ ਤਬੈ ਵਹ ਦੇਤ ਹੈ ਟੋਪੀ ॥੧੨੭॥
naak ghasaae hasaae unai fir let tabai veh det hai ttopee |127|
“They close my nose, strike my head and then return my cap after getting my nose rubbed and after making mockery of me.”127.
