ਧ੍ਰਯਾਨ ਬਿਧਾਨ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਾ ॥

dhrayaan bidhaan kare bahu bhaataa |

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਅਧਿਕ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

sevaa karee adhik din raataa |

They performed various types of mediation, worship and service day and service day and night for a long time.

ਐਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਕਾਲ ਬਿਤਾਯੋ ॥

ais bhaat tih kaal bitaayo |

ਅਬ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਵ ਊਪਰ ਆਯੋ ॥੭॥

ab prasang siv aoopar aayo |7|

Now everything depended on the support of Shiva.7.

ਭੂਤਰਾਟ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਅਤੁਲ ਬਲ ॥

bhootaraatt ko nirakh atul bal |

ਕਾਪਤ ਭਏ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਰਿ ਜਲ ਥਲ ॥

kaapat bhe anik ar jal thal |

All the enemies on water and land trembled, seeing the innumerable forces of Shiva, the lord of ghosts.

ਦਛ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਬਰ ॥

dachh prajaapat hot nripat bar |

ਦਸ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਘਰ ॥੮॥

das sahansr duhitaa taa ke ghar |8|

Out of all the kings, the king Daksha was most respected, who had ten thousand daughters in his home.8.

ਤਿਨ ਇਕ ਬਾਰ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਕੀਯਾ ॥

tin ik baar suyanbar keeyaa |

ਦਸ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਦੁਹਿਤਾਇਸ ਦੀਯਾ ॥

das sahansr duhitaaeis deeyaa |

Once that king held a swayyamvara at his place and permitted his ten thousand daughters.

ਜੋ ਬਰੁ ਰੁਚੇ ਬਰਹੁ ਅਬ ਸੋਈ ॥

jo bar ruche barahu ab soee |

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੋਈ ॥੯॥

aooch neech raajaa hoe koee |9|

To wed according to their interest forsaking all thought of high and low in society.9.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਿਸੈ ਰੁਚਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਬਰਾ ॥

jo jo jisai ruchaa tin baraa |

ਸਬ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਉਚਰਾ ॥

sab prasang nahee jaat ucharaa |

Each one of them wed whomsoever she liked, but all such anecdotes cannot be described

ਜੋ ਬਿਰਤਾਤ ਕਹਿ ਛੋਰਿ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥

jo birataat keh chhor sunaaoo |

ਕਥਾ ਬ੍ਰਿਧਿ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਾਊ ॥੧੦॥

kathaa bridh te adhik ddaraaoo |10|

It all of them are narrated in detail, then there will always be the fear of increasing the volume.10.

ਚਾਰ ਸੁਤਾ ਕਸਪ ਕਹ ਦੀਨੀ ॥

chaar sutaa kasap keh deenee |

ਕੇਤਕ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਲੀਨੀ ॥

ketak bayaah chandramaa leenee |

Four daughters were given to the sage Kashyap, and many of the daughters married the god Chandrama (moon).

ਕੇਤਕ ਗਈ ਅਉਰ ਦੇਸਨ ਮਹਿ ॥

ketak gee aaur desan meh |

ਬਰਿਯੋ ਗਉਰਜਾ ਏਕ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕਹਿ ॥੧੧॥

bariyo gaurajaa ek rudr keh |11|

Many of them went to foreign countries, but Guri (Parvait) named and married Shiva.11.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਨੀ ॥

jab hee bayaah rudr grihi aanee |

ਚਲੀ ਜਗ ਕੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥

chalee jag kee bahur kahaanee |

When, after wedding, Parvati reached the home of Shiva (Rudra), the many types of narratives became prevalent.

ਸਬ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਤਿਹ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਈ ॥

sab duhitaa tih bol patthaaee |

ਲੀਨੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਤਾਰਨ ਆਈ ॥੧੨॥

leeno sang bhataaran aaee |12|

The king called all his daughters and all of them came to their father’s home alongwith their husband.12.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਦੇਸ ਪਰਦੇਸਾ ॥

je je hute des paradesaa |

ਜਾਤ ਭਏ ਸਸੁਰਾਰਿ ਨਰੇਸਾ ॥

jaat bhe sasuraar naresaa |

All the kings within and outside the country, began to reach at the house of their father-in-law.

ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਅਉਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰਾ ॥

nirakh rudr ko aaur prakaaraa |

ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਚਿਤਾਰਾ ॥੧੩॥

kinahoon na bhoopat taeh chitaaraa |13|

Considering the queer dressing habits of Rudra, no one could think of him.13.

ਨਹਨ ਗਉਰਜਾ ਦਛ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥

nehan gaurajaa dachh bulaaee |

ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਰਦ ਤੇ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਰਿਸਾਈ ॥

sun naarad te hridai risaaee |

The king Daksha did not invite Gauri then Gauri heard about it from the mouth of Narad, she got extremely angry in her mind.

ਬਿਨ ਬੋਲੇ ਪਿਤ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਗਈ ॥

bin bole pit ke grih gee |

ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਤੇਜ ਤਨ ਤਈ ॥੧੪॥

anik prakaar tej tan tee |14|

She went to her father’s house without telling anybody, and her body and mind were emotionally blazing.14.

ਜਗ ਕੁੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਪਰੀ ਉਛਰ ਕਰਿ ॥

jag kundd meh paree uchhar kar |

ਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਿ ਪਾਵਕ ਭਈ ਸੀਤਰਿ ॥

sat prataap paavak bhee seetar |

Being extremely infuriated, she plunged into the sacrificial pit, and because of her dignified demeanour, the fire cooled down.

ਜੋਗ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਹੁ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸਾ ॥

jog agan kahu bahur prakaasaa |

ਤਾ ਤਨ ਕੀਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਸਾ ॥੧੫॥

taa tan keeyo praan ko naasaa |15|

But Sati (Parvati) lighted her Yoga-fire and with that fire, her body was destroyed.15.

ਆਇ ਨਾਰਦ ਇਮ ਸਿਵਹਿ ਜਤਾਈ ॥

aae naarad im siveh jataaee |

ਕਹਾ ਬੈਠਿ ਹੋ ਭਾਗ ਚੜਾਈ ॥

kahaa baitth ho bhaag charraaee |

Narad, on the other side, came to Shiva and said, “Why art thou sitting here, having been intoxicated with hemp (and there Guari hath burnt herself alive)?”

ਛੂਟਿਯੋ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੋਪੁ ਜੀਯ ਜਾਗਾ ॥

chhoottiyo dhiaan kop jeey jaagaa |

ਗਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਤਹ ਕੋ ਉਠ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧੬॥

geh trisool teh ko utth bhaagaa |16|

Hearing this, Shiva’s meditation was shattered and his heart was filled with rage he held up his trident and ran towards that side.16.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਥਲੈ ॥

jab hee jaat bhayo tih thalai |

ਲਯੋ ਉਠਾਇ ਸੂਲ ਕਰਿ ਬਲੈ ॥

layo utthaae sool kar balai |

When Shiva reached the place where Sati had burnt herself, he caught his trident also very firmly.

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ ॥

bhaat bhaat tin kare prahaaraa |

ਸਕਲ ਬਿਧੁੰਸ ਜਗ ਕਰ ਡਾਰਾ ॥੧੭॥

sakal bidhuns jag kar ddaaraa |17|

With blows of various types, he destroyed the merit of the whole Yajna (sacrifice).17.

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਨ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥

bhaat bhaat tan bhoop sanghaare |

ਇਕ ਇਕ ਤੇ ਕਰ ਦੁਇ ਦੁਇ ਡਾਰੇ ॥

eik ik te kar due due ddaare |

He destroyed many kings and chopped their bodies into bits.

ਜਾ ਕਹੁ ਪਹੁੰਚਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ ॥

jaa kahu pahunch trisool prahaaraa |

ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਰ ਠਉਰ ਹੀ ਡਾਰਾ ॥੧੮॥

taa kahu maar tthaur hee ddaaraa |18|

On whomsoever the blow of the trident struck, he died there and then.18.

ਜਗ ਕੁੰਡ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥

jag kundd nirakhat bhayo jab hee |

ਜੂਟ ਜਟਾਨ ਉਖਾਰਸ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥

joott jattaan ukhaaras tab hee |

When Shiva looked into the sacrificial pit and saw he burnt body of Gauri, he began to pluck his matted hair.

ਬੀਰਭਦ੍ਰ ਤਬ ਕੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸਾ ॥

beerabhadr tab keea prakaasaa |

ਉਪਜਤ ਕਰੋ ਨਰੇਸਨ ਨਾਸਾ ॥੧੯॥

aupajat karo naresan naasaa |19|

At that time, Virbhandra manifested himself there and after his manifestation, he began to destroy the kings.19.

ਕੇਤਕ ਕਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਬਰ ॥

ketak kare khandd nripat bar |

ਕੇਤਕ ਪਠੈ ਦਏ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ॥

ketak patthai de jam ke ghar |

He chopped several kings into part and sent several of them to the abode of Yama.

ਕੇਤਕ ਗਿਰੇ ਧਰਣਿ ਬਿਕਰਾਰਾ ॥

ketak gire dharan bikaraaraa |

ਜਨੁ ਸਰਤਾ ਕੇ ਗਿਰੇ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥੨੦॥

jan sarataa ke gire karaaraa |20|

Just as with the flooding of the stream, the banks are eroded further, likewise many terrible warriors began to fall on the earth.20.

ਤਬ ਲਉ ਸਿਵਹ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਆਈ ॥

tab lau sivah chetanaa aaee |

ਗਹਿ ਪਿਨਾਕ ਕਹੁ ਪਰੋ ਰਿਸਾਈ ॥

geh pinaak kahu paro risaaee |

At that time, Shiva regained his senses and fell on the enemy with his bow in his hand.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਤਾਣਿ ਬਾਣ ਤਨ ਮਾਰਾ ॥

jaa kai taan baan tan maaraa |

ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਨਿ ਨੁਚਾਰਾ ॥੨੧॥

praan taje tin paan nuchaaraa |21|

Whomsoever Shiva struck his arrow by pulling his bow, he breathed his last there and then.21.

ਡਮਾ ਡਮ ਡਉਰੂ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

ddamaa ddam ddauroo bahu baaje |

ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਦਸਊ ਦਿਸਿ ਗਾਜੈ ॥

bhoot pret dsaoo dis gaajai |

The tabors began to resound and in all the ten directions, the ghosts and fiends began to roar.

ਝਿਮ ਝਿਮ ਕਰਤ ਅਸਿਨ ਕੀ ਧਾਰਾ ॥

jhim jhim karat asin kee dhaaraa |

ਨਾਚੇ ਰੁੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਬਿਕਰਾਰਾ ॥੨੨॥

naache rundd mundd bikaraaraa |22|

The swords glittered and their blows were showered and the headless trunks began to dance on all the four sides.22.

ਬਜੇ ਢੋਲ ਸਨਾਇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥

baje dtol sanaae nagaare |

ਜੁਟੈ ਜੰਗ ਕੋ ਜੋਧ ਜੁਝਾਰੇ ॥

juttai jang ko jodh jujhaare |

The trumpets and drums resounded and their sound was heard the warriors fought bravely in the war.

ਖਹਿ ਖਹਿ ਮਰੇ ਅਪਰ ਰਿਸ ਬਢੇ ॥

kheh kheh mare apar ris badte |

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਦੇਖੀਯਤ ਤਾਜੀਅਨ ਚਢੇ ॥੨੩॥

bahur na dekheeyat taajeean chadte |23|

They collided with one another, being filled with great anger, and they were never seen again, riding on their horses.23.

ਜਾ ਪਰ ਮੁਸਟ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ ॥

jaa par musatt trisool prahaaraa |

ਤਾਕਹੁ ਠਉਰ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਡਾਰਾ ॥

taakahu tthaur maar hee ddaaraa |

On whomsoever, there was the blow of the trident, held in the fist of Shiva, he was killed there and then,

ਐਸੋ ਭਯੋ ਬੀਰ ਘਮਸਾਨਾ ॥

aiso bhayo beer ghamasaanaa |

ਭਕ ਭਕਾਇ ਤਹ ਜਗੇ ਮਸਾਨਾ ॥੨੪॥

bhak bhakaae teh jage masaanaa |24|

Virbhadra foutht such a fierce fight, that in great confusion, the ghosts and fiends were awakened.24.
