Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਨਬੰਧੇਹੀ ॥

putr kalatr lok grih banitaa maaeaa sanabandhehee |

Children, spouses, men and women in one's household, are all bound by Maya.

ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਕੋ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਹੋਸੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਅਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੧॥

ant kee baar ko kharaa na hosee sabh mithiaa asanehee |1|

At the very last moment, none of them shall stand by you; their love is totally false. ||1||

ਰੇ ਨਰ ਕਾਹੇ ਪਪੋਰਹੁ ਦੇਹੀ ॥

re nar kaahe paporahu dehee |

O man, why do you pamper your body so?

ਊਡਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਧੂਮੁ ਬਾਦਰੋ ਇਕੁ ਭਾਜਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

aoodd jaaeigo dhoom baadaro ik bhaajahu raam sanehee | rahaau |

It shall disperse like a cloud of smoke; vibrate upon the One, the Beloved Lord. ||Pause||

ਤੀਨਿ ਸੰਙਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਜਲ ਕੂਕਰ ਭਸਮੇਹੀ ॥

teen sangiaa kar dehee keenee jal kookar bhasamehee |

There are three ways in which the body can be consumed - it can be thrown into water, given to the dogs, or cremated to ashes.

ਹੋਇ ਆਮਰੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਬਿਸਰੋਹੀ ॥੨॥

hoe aamaro grih meh baitthaa karan kaaran bisarohee |2|

He considers himself to be immortal; he sits in his home, and forgets the Lord, the Cause of causes. ||2||

ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਣੀਏ ਸਾਜੇ ਕਾਚੈ ਤਾਗਿ ਪਰੋਹੀ ॥

anik bhaat kar manee saaje kaachai taag parohee |

In various ways, the Lord has fashioned the beads, and strung them on a slender thread.

ਤੂਟਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਸੂਤੁ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤੋਹੀ ॥੩॥

toott jaaeigo soot baapure fir paachhai pachhutohee |3|

The thread shall break, O wretched man, and then, you shall repent and regret. ||3||

ਜਿਨਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨੇਹੀ ॥

jin tum siraje siraj savaare tis dhiaavahu din rainehee |

He created you, and after creating you, He adorned you - meditate on Him day and night.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਗਹੇਹੀ ॥੪॥੪॥

jan naanak prabh kirapaa dhaaree mai satigur ott gahehee |4|4|

God has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; I hold tight to the Support of the True Guru. ||4||4||
