Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
charan kamal hiradai nit dhaaree |
I enshrine the Lord's lotus feet continually within my heart.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੀ ॥
gur pooraa khin khin namasakaaree |
Each and every moment, I humbly bow to the Perfect Guru.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਆਗੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ॥੧॥
tan man arap dharee sabh aagai jag meh naam suhaavanaa |1|
I dedicate my body, mind and everything, and place it in offering before the Lord. His Name is the most beautiful in this world. ||1||
ਸੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
so tthaakur kiau manahu visaare |
Why forget the Lord and Master from your mind?
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
jeeo pindd de saaj savaare |
He blessed you with body and soul, creating and embellishing you.
ਸਾਸਿ ਗਰਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੨॥
saas garaas samaale karataa keetaa apanaa paavanaa |2|
With every breath and morsel of food, the Creator takes care of His beings, who receive according to what they have done. ||2||
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jaa te birathaa koaoo naahee |
No one returns empty-handed from Him;
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
aatth pehar har rakh man maahee |
twenty-four hours a day, keep the Lord in your mind.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭਜੁ ਅਚੁਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੩॥
saadhasang bhaj achut suaamee daragah sobhaa paavanaa |3|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate and vibrate upon your imperishable Lord and Master, and you shall be honored in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਸਿਧਿ ॥
chaar padaarath asatt dasaa sidh |
The four great blessings, and the eighteen miraculous spiritual powers,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ॥
naam nidhaan sehaj sukh nau nidh |
are found in the treasure of the Naam, which brings celestial peace and poise, and the nine treasures.
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਜੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਾਵਣਾ ॥੪॥
sarab kaliaan je man meh chaaheh mil saadhoo suaamee raavanaa |4|
If you yearn in your mind for all joys, then join the Saadh Sangat, and dwell upon your Lord and Master. ||4||
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
saasat sinmrit bed vakhaanee |
The Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas proclaim
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੀਤੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
janam padaarath jeet paraanee |
that the mortal must be victorious in this priceless human life.
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਰਹਰੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵਣਾ ॥੫॥
kaam krodh nindaa parahareeai har rasanaa naanak gaavanaa |5|
Forsaking sexual desire, anger and slander, sing of the Lord with your tongue, O Nanak. ||5||
ਜਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
jis roop na rekhiaa kul nahee jaatee |
He has no form or shape, no ancestry or social class.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
pooran poor rahiaa din raatee |
The Perfect Lord is perfectly pervading day and night.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਸੋਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੬॥
jo jo japai soee vaddabhaagee bahurr na jonee paavanaa |6|
Whoever meditates on Him is very fortunate; he is not consigned to reincarnation again. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jis no bisarai purakh bidhaataa |
One who forgets the Primal Lord, the Architect of karma,
ਜਲਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਤਾਤਾ ॥
jalataa firai rahai nit taataa |
wanders around burning, and remains tormented.
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣੈ ਕਉ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੭॥
akirataghanai kau rakhai na koee narak ghor meh paavanaa |7|
No one can save such an ungrateful person; he is thrown into the most horrible hell. ||7||
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥
jeeo praan tan dhan jin saajiaa |
He blessed you with your soul, the breath of life, your body and wealth;
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥
maat garabh meh raakh nivaajiaa |
He preserved and nurtured you in your mother's womb.
ਤਿਸ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਅਨ ਰਾਤਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਸਿਰੈ ਨ ਲਾਵਣਾ ॥੮॥
tis siau preet chhaadd an raataa kaahoo sirai na laavanaa |8|
Forsaking His Love, you are imbued with another; you shall never achieve your goals like this. ||8||
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
dhaar anugrahu suaamee mere |
Please shower me with Your Merciful Grace, O my Lord and Master.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਸਭਨ ਕੈ ਨੇਰੇ ॥
ghatt ghatt vaseh sabhan kai nere |
You dwell in each and every heart, and are near everyone.
ਹਾਥਿ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਕਛੂਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਣਾਇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਜਣਾਵਣਾ ॥੯॥
haath hamaarai kachhooai naahee jis janaaeihi tisai janaavanaa |9|
Nothing is in my hands; he alone knows, whom You inspire to know. ||9||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jaa kai masatak dhur likh paaeaa |
One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead,
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
tis hee purakh na viaapai maaeaa |
that person is not afflicted by Maya.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਦੂਸਰ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੦॥
naanak daas sadaa saranaaee doosar lavai na laavanaa |10|
Slave Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary forever; there is no other equal to You. ||10||
ਆਗਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਸਭਿ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
aagiaa dookh sookh sabh keene |
In His Will, He made all pain and pleasure.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਰਲੈ ਹੀ ਚੀਨੇ ॥
amrit naam biralai hee cheene |
How rare are those who remember the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੧॥
taa kee keemat kehan na jaaee jat kat ohee samaavanaa |11|
His value cannot be described. He is prevailing everywhere. ||11||
ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਵਡ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
soee bhagat soee vadd daataa |
He is the devotee; He is the Great Giver.
ਸੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
soee pooran purakh bidhaataa |
He is the Perfect Primal Lord, the Architect of karma.
ਬਾਲ ਸਹਾਈ ਸੋਈ ਤੇਰਾ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੨॥
baal sahaaee soee teraa jo terai man bhaavanaa |12|
He is your help and support, since infancy; He fulfills your mind's desires. ||12||
ਮਿਰਤੁ ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
mirat dookh sookh likh paae |
Death, pain and pleasure are ordained by the Lord.
ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਬਧਹਿ ਘਟਹਿ ਨ ਘਟਾਏ ॥
til nahee badheh ghatteh na ghattaae |
They do not increase or decrease by anyone's efforts.
ਸੋਈ ਹੋਇ ਜਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੩॥
soee hoe ji karate bhaavai keh kai aap vayaavanaa |13|
That alone happens, which is pleasing to the Creator; speaking of himself, the mortal ruins himself. ||13||
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਕਾਢੇ ॥
andh koop te seee kaadte |
He lifts us up and pulls us out of the deep dark pit;
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਟੂਟੇ ਗਾਂਢੇ ॥
janam janam ke ttootte gaandte |
He unites with Himself, those who were separated for so many incarnations.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਾ ॥੧੪॥
kirapaa dhaar rakhe kar apune mil saadhoo gobind dhiaavanaa |14|
Showering them with His Mercy, He protects them with His own hands. Meeting with the Holy Saints, they meditate on the Lord of the Universe. ||14||
ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
teree keemat kehan na jaaee |
Your worth cannot be described.
ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੁ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
acharaj roop vaddee vaddiaaee |
Wondrous is Your form, and Your glorious greatness.
ਭਗਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੫॥੧॥੧੪॥੨੨॥੨੪॥੨॥੧੪॥੬੨॥
bhagat daan mangai jan teraa naanak bal bal jaavanaa |15|1|14|22|24|2|14|62|
Your humble servant begs for the gift of devotional worship. Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||15||1||14||22||24||2||14||62||
