Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਭ ਊਚ ਬਿਰਾਜੇ ॥

paarabraham sabh aooch biraaje |

The Abode of the Supreme Lord God is above all.

ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ॥

aape thaap uthaape saaje |

He Himself establishes, establishes and creates.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਬਾਲ ਕਾ ॥੧॥

prabh kee saran gehat sukh paaeeai kichh bhau na viaapai baal kaa |1|

Holding tight to the Sanctuary of God, peace is found, and one is not afflicted by the fear of Maya. ||1||

ਗਰਭ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ॥

garabh agan meh jineh ubaariaa |

He saved you from the fire of the womb,

ਰਕਤ ਕਿਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਆ ॥

rakat kiram meh nahee sanghaariaa |

and did not destroy you, when you were an egg in your mother's ovary.

ਅਪਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਮਾਲਕਾ ॥੨॥

apanaa simaran de pratipaaliaa ohu sagal ghattaa kaa maalakaa |2|

Blessing you with meditative remembrance upon Himself, He nurtured you and cherished you; He is the Master of all hearts. ||2||

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਆਇਆ ॥

charan kamal saranaaee aaeaa |

I have come to the Sanctuary of His lotus feet.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥

saadhasang hai har jas gaaeaa |

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I sing the Praises of the Lord.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਲ ਕਾ ॥੩॥

janam maran sabh dookh nivaare jap har har bhau nahee kaal kaa |3|

I have erased all the pains of birth and death; meditating on the Lord, Har, Har, I have no fear of death. ||3||

ਸਮਰਥ ਅਕਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥

samarath akath agochar devaa |

God is all-powerful, indescribable, unfathomable and divine.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥

jeea jant sabh taa kee sevaa |

All beings and creatures serve Him.

ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰੀ ਪਾਲਕਾ ॥੪॥

anddaj jeraj setaj utabhuj bahu parakaaree paalakaa |4|

In so many ways, He cherishes those born from eggs, from the womb, from sweat and from the earth. ||4||

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥

tiseh paraapat hoe nidhaanaa |

He alone obtains this wealth,

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਨਾ ॥

raam naam ras antar maanaa |

who savors and enjoys, deep within his mind, the Name of the Lord.

ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਸਾਲਕਾ ॥੫॥

kar geh leene andh koop te virale keee saalakaa |5|

Grasping hold of his arm, God lifts him up and pulls him out of the deep, dark pit. Such a devotee of the Lord is very rare. ||5||

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਮਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

aad ant madh prabh soee |

God exists in the beginning, in the middle and in the end.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

aape karataa kare su hoee |

Whatever the Creator Lord Himself does, comes to pass.

ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਦਾਲਿਦ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਘਾਲਕਾ ॥੬॥

bhram bhau mittiaa saadhasang te daalid na koee ghaalakaa |6|

Doubt and fear are erased, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and then one is not afflicted by deadly pain. ||6||

ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਉ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥

aootam baanee gaau goupaalaa |

I sing the most Sublime Bani, the Word of the Lord of the Universe.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਮੰਗਹੁ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥

saadhasangat kee mangahu ravaalaa |

I beg for the dust of the feet of the Saadh Sangat.

ਬਾਸਨ ਮੇਟਿ ਨਿਬਾਸਨ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਲਮਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਜਾਲਕਾ ॥੭॥

baasan mett nibaasan hoeeai kalamal sagale jaalakaa |7|

Eradicating desire, I have become free of desire; I have burnt away all my sins. ||7||

ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥

santaa kee ih reet niraalee |

This is the unique way of the Saints;

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਨਾਲੀ ॥

paarabraham kar dekheh naalee |

they behold the Supreme Lord God with them.

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਆਰਾਧਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਉ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕੀਜੈ ਆਲਕਾ ॥੮॥

saas saas aaraadhan har har kiau simarat keejai aalakaa |8|

With each and every breath, they worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har. How could anyone be too lazy to meditate on Him? ||8||

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥

jeh dekhaa teh antarajaamee |

Wherever I look, there I see the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਵਿਸਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

nimakh na visarahu prabh mere suaamee |

I never forget God, my Lord and Master, even for an instant.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾ ਬਨਿ ਜਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਥਾਲਕਾ ॥੯॥

simar simar jeeveh tere daasaa ban jal pooran thaalakaa |9|

Your slaves live by meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord; You are permeating the woods, the water and the land. ||9||

ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

tatee vaau na taa kau laagai |

Even the hot wind does not touch one

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥

simarat naam anadin jaagai |

who remains awake in meditative remembrance, night and day.

ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਤਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੦॥

anad binod kare har simaran tis maaeaa sang na taalakaa |10|

He delights and enjoys meditative remembrance on the Lord; he has no attachment to Maya. ||10||

ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਦੂਖ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

rog sog dookh tis naahee |

Disease, sorrow and pain do not affect him;

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਹੀ ॥

saadhasang har keeratan gaahee |

he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਖਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੧॥

aapanaa naam dehi prabh preetam sun benantee khaalakaa |11|

Please bless me with Your Name, O my Beloved Lord God; please listen to my prayer, O Creator. ||11||

ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

naam ratan teraa hai piaare |

Your Name is a jewel, O my Beloved Lord.

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਾਸ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥

rang rate terai daas apaare |

Your slaves are imbued with Your Infinite Love.

ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਹੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਭਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੨॥

terai rang rate tudh jehe virale keee bhaalakaa |12|

Those who are imbued with Your Love, become like You; it is so rare that they are found. ||12||

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

tin kee dhoorr maangai man meraa |

My mind longs for the dust of the feet of those

ਜਿਨ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਰਾ ॥

jin visareh naahee kaahoo beraa |

who never forget the Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੩॥

tin kai sang param pad paaee sadaa sangee har naalakaa |13|

Associating with them, I obtain the supreme status; the Lord, my Companion, is always with me. ||13||

ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

saajan meet piaaraa soee |

He alone is my beloved friend and companion,

ਏਕੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥

ek drirraae duramat khoee |

who implants the Name of the One Lord within, and eradicates evil-mindedness.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਤਜਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਨਿਰਮਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੪॥

kaam krodh ahankaar tajaae tis jan kau upades niramaalakaa |14|

Immaculate are the teachings of that humble servant of the Lord, who casts out sexual desire, anger and egotism. ||14||

ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

tudh vin naahee koee meraa |

Other than You, O Lord, no one is mine.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪਕੜਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਪੈਰਾ ॥

gur pakarraae prabh ke pairaa |

The Guru has led me to grasp the feet of God.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਖੰਡਿਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੫॥

hau balihaaree satigur poore jin khanddiaa bharam anaalakaa |15|

I am a sacrifice to the Perfect True Guru, who has destroyed the illusion of duality. ||15||

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

saas saas prabh bisarai naahee |

With each and every breath, I never forget God.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਧਿਆਈ ॥

aatth pehar har har kau dhiaaee |

Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਵਡਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੩॥

naanak sant terai rang raate too samarath vaddaalakaa |16|4|13|

O Nanak, the Saints are imbued with Your Love; You are the great and all-powerful Lord. ||16||4||13||
