First Mehl:

ਸਉ ਓਲਾਮੑੇ ਦਿਨੈ ਕੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਿਲਨੑਿ ਸਹੰਸ ॥

sau olaamae dinai ke raatee milana sahans |

He receives hundreds and thousands of reprimands, day and night;

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਛਡਿ ਕੈ ਕਰੰਗੀ ਲਗਾ ਹੰਸੁ ॥

sifat salaahan chhadd kai karangee lagaa hans |

the swan-soul has renounced the Lord's Praises, and attached itself to a rotting carcass.

ਫਿਟੁ ਇਵੇਹਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਇ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਪੇਟੁ ॥

fitt ivehaa jeeviaa jit khaae vadhaaeaa pett |

Cursed is that life, in which one only eats to fill his belly.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਹੇਤੁ ॥੨॥

naanak sache naam vin sabho dusaman het |2|

O Nanak, without the True Name, all one's friends turn to enemies. ||2||
