Gauree Maalaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥

mo kau ih bidh ko samajhaavai |

Who can help me understand my condition?

ਕਰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਨਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Only the Creator knows it. ||1||Pause||

ਅਨਜਾਨਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਇਨਹਿ ਕਮਾਨੋ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸਾਧਾ ॥

anajaanat kichh ineh kamaano jap tap kachhoo na saadhaa |

This person does things in ignorance; he does not chant in meditation, and does not perform any deep, self-disciplined meditation.

ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦਉਰਾਇਓ ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥੧॥

deh dis lai ihu man dauraaeo kavan karam kar baadhaa |1|

This mind wanders around in the ten directions - how can it be restrained? ||1||

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਉ ਇਸ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

man tan dhan bhoom kaa tthaakur hau is kaa ihu meraa |

"I am the lord, the master of my mind, body, wealth and lands. These are mine."

ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕਛੁ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਹ ਪੈਖਰ ਪਏ ਪੈਰਾ ॥੨॥

bharam moh kachh soojhas naahee ih paikhar pe pairaa |2|

In doubt and emotional attachment, this person understands nothing; with this leash, these feet are tied up. ||2||

ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਮਾਵਨ ਪਰਿਆ ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ॥

tab ihu kahaa kamaavan pariaa jab ihu kachhoo na hotaa |

What did this person do, when he did not exist?

ਜਬ ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੩॥

jab ek niranjan nirankaar prabh sabh kichh aapeh karataa |3|

When the Immaculate and Formless Lord God was all alone, He did everything by Himself. ||3||

ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥

apane karatab aape jaanai jin ihu rachan rachaaeaa |

He alone knows His actions; He created this creation.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬੩॥

kahu naanak karanahaar hai aape satigur bharam chukaaeaa |4|5|163|

Says Nanak, the Lord Himself is the Doer. The True Guru has dispelled my doubts. ||4||5||163||
