ਛਪੈ ਛੰਦ ॥

CHHAPAI STANZA

ਇਕ ਇਕ ਆਰੁਹੇ ਇਕ ਇਕਨ ਕਹ ਤਕੈ ॥

eik ik aaruhe ik ikan keh takai |

The warriors excelling one another are coming and looking at each other one by one

ਇਕ ਇਕ ਲੈ ਚਲੈ ਇਕ ਕਹ ਇਕ ਉਚਕੈ ॥

eik ik lai chalai ik keh ik uchakai |

They are moving with each one and are being startle by each one

ਇਕ ਇਕ ਸਰ ਬਰਖ ਇਕ ਧਨ ਕਰਖ ਰੋਸ ਭਰ ॥

eik ik sar barakh ik dhan karakh ros bhar |

On one side they are discharging arrows and on the other they are pulling their bows in rage

ਇਕ ਇਕ ਤਰਫੰਤ ਇਕ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧ ਗਏ ਤਰਿ ॥

eik ik tarafant ik bhav sindh ge tar |

On one side the fighters are writing and on the other side the dead ones are ferrying across the world-ocean

ਰਣਿ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਸਾਵੰਤ ਭਿੜੈਂ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਹੁਐ ਬਿਝੜੇ ॥

ran ik ik saavant bhirrain ik ik huai bijharre |

The warriors excelling one another have fought and died

ਨਰ ਇਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਸਸਤ੍ਰਣ ਭਿੜੇ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਅਵਝੜ ਝੜੇ ॥੪੯੯॥

nar ik anik sasatran bhirre ik ik avajharr jharre |499|

All the warriors are alike, but the weapons are many and these weapons are striking blows on the soldiers like rain.499.

ਇਕ ਜੂਝ ਭਟ ਗਿਰੈਂ ਇਕ ਬਬਕੰਤ ਮਧ ਰਣ ॥

eik joojh bhatt girain ik babakant madh ran |

On one side the warriors have fallen and on the other they are shouting

ਇਕ ਦੇਵਪੁਰ ਬਸੈ ਇਕ ਭਜ ਚਲਤ ਖਾਇ ਬ੍ਰਣ ॥

eik devapur basai ik bhaj chalat khaae bran |

On one side they have entered the city of gods and on the other, having been wounded, they have sped away

ਇਕ ਜੁਝ ਉਝੜੇ ਇਕ ਮੁਕਤੰਤ ਬਾਨ ਕਸਿ ॥

eik jujh ujharre ik mukatant baan kas |

Some are fighting in the war firmly and on the other side they are falling down having been chopped like trees

ਇਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਣ ਝਲੈਂ ਇਕ ਮੁਕਤੰਤ ਬਾਨ ਕਸਿ ॥

eik anik bran jhalain ik mukatant baan kas |

On one side many wounded are being endured and on the other the arrows are being discharged with full strength

ਰਣ ਭੂੰਮ ਘੂਮ ਸਾਵੰਤ ਮੰਡੈ ਦੀਰਘੁ ਕਾਇ ਲਛਮਣ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ॥

ran bhoonm ghoom saavant manddai deeragh kaae lachhaman prabal |

Diraghkaya and Lakshman have wounded and created such a situation in the battlefield,

ਥਿਰ ਰਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਉਪਵਨ ਕਿਧੋ ਉਤਰ ਦਿਸ ਦੁਐ ਅਚਲ ॥੫੦੦॥

thir rahe brichh upavan kidho utar dis duai achal |500|

As if they are large trees in a forest or eternal and immovable pole-stars in the north.500.
