ਵਹਿ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਚੇਲਾ ਮਰਦ ਕਾ ਮਰਦਾਨ ਸਦਾਏ ।
veh upajio chelaa marad kaa maradaan sadaae |
Hail! God's disciple was born and recognised as a great hero.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਕਉ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਨ ਝੁਲਾਏ ।
jin sabh prithavee kau jeet kar neesaan jhulaae |
He triumphed over the whole world and unfurled the sacred flags.
ਤਬ ਸਿੰਘਨ ਕਉ ਬਖਸ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਸੁਖ ਦਿਖਲਾਏ ।
tab singhan kau bakhas kar bahu sukh dikhalaae |
Protected all the Singhs, and endowed them with bliss.
ਫਿਰ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਕੇ ਊਪਰੇ ਹਾਕਮ ਠਹਿਰਾਏ ।
fir sabh prithavee ke aoopare haakam tthahiraae |
Then controlled the entire society, and explained the commands.
ਤਿਨਹੂਂ ਜਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਆਨੰਦ ਰਚਾਏ ।
tinahoon jagat sanbhaal kar aanand rachaae |
Promoted good order in the world and inspired exhilaration.
ਤਹ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਕਾਲ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ।
teh simar simar akaal kau har har gun gaae |
Meditated and ruminated over the Timeless One, and glorified Har, the God Almighty.
ਵਾਹ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਾਜੀ ਸਬਲ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਗਾਏ ।
vaah gur gobind gaajee sabal jin singh jagaae |
Exalted Guru Gobind Singh instituted mighty crusading Singhs.
ਤਬ ਭਇਓ ਜਗਤ ਸਭ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਾਏ ।
tab bheo jagat sabh khaalasaa manamukh bharamaae |
Thus abounded in the world, Khalsa, the righteous ones, and the heretics were deluded.
ਇਉਂ ਉਠਿ ਭਬਕੇ ਬਲ ਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਮਕਾਏ ।
eiaun utth bhabake bal beer singh sasatr jhamakaae |
The mighty Singhs rose and made their arms to shine.
ਤਬ ਸਭ ਤੁਰਕਨ ਕੋ ਛੇਦ ਕਰਿ ਅਕਾਲ ਜਪਾਏ ।
tab sabh turakan ko chhed kar akaal japaae |
All the Turks were subjugated and made to ponder over the Timeless.
ਸਭ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤੀ ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਹਤੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਟਿਕਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ।
sabh chhatrapatee chun chun hate kahoon ttikan na paae |
Putting aside all the Kashatriyas, they let them had no peace.
ਤਬ ਜਗ ਮੈਂ ਧਰਮ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਓ ਸਚੁ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾਏ ।
tab jag main dharam paragaasio sach hukam chalaae |
The righteousness manifested the world and Truth was proclaimed.
ਯਹ ਬਾਰਹ ਸਦੀ ਨਿਬੇੜ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਫਤੇ ਬੁਲਾਏ ।
yeh baarah sadee niberr kar gur fate bulaae |
Eradicating the influence of twelve centuries, the Guru's slogan ravelled,
ਤਬ ਦੁਸਟ ਮਲੇਛ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਖਪੇ ਛਲ ਕਪਟ ਉਡਾਏ ।
tab dusatt malechh sahije khape chhal kapatt uddaae |
Which indulgently invalidated all the enemies and barbarians, and the hypocrisy took to its wings.
ਇਉਂ ਹਰਿ ਅਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਸੋਂ ਰਣ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਏ ।
eiaun har akaal ke hukam son ran judh machaae |
The world was won over thus and truth was crowned, and set on its throne.
ਤਬ ਕੁਦੇ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੁਜੰਗੀਏ ਦਲ ਕਟਕ ਉਡਾਏ ।
tab kude singh bhujangee dal kattak uddaae |
The world was consoled, and the devotees were induced towards Har.
ਇਉਂ ਫਤੇ ਭਈ ਜਗ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਤਖਤ ਰਚਾਏ ।
eiaun fate bhee jag jeet kar sach takhat rachaae |
All the humanity was blessed and the afflictions were wiped out.
ਬਹੁ ਦੀਓ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ਜਗਤ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ।
bahu deeo dilaasaa jagat ko har bhagat drirraae |
ਤਬ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਭਈ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਗਵਾਏ ।
tab sabh prithavee sukheea bhee dukh darad gavaae |
ਫਿਰ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਬਖਸਿਓ ਜਗਤ ਭੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਚੁਕਾਏ ।
fir sukh nihachal bakhasio jagat bhai traas chukaae |
Then with the eternal benediction, the anxiety in the world was alleviated.
ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਖੜਾ ਦਰ ਪਕੜਿ ਕੈ ਇਉਂ ਉਚਰਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ।
guradaas kharraa dar pakarr kai iaun uchar sunaae |
Gurdas, leaning on the door, was eulogising this;
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜਮ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਸੋਂ ਮੁਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਛੁਡਾਏ ।
he satigur jam traas son muhi lehu chhuddaae |
`Oh my True Lord! Please save me from the trepidation of the Yamas.
ਜਬ ਹਉਂ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਗੁਰ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਏ ।
jab haun daasan ko daasaro gur ttahil kamaae |
`Enable me, the servant of servants, to earn the favour of the Guru,
ਤਬ ਛੂਟੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਕਲ ਫੁਨ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ।
tab chhoottai bandhan sakal fun narak na jaae |
`So that all the restraints are erased, and one retreats not to the hell.'
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾ ।
har daasaan chindiaa sad sadaa gur sangat melaa |
Har was always anxious for his devotees and, thus, the devotees's (divine) union was obvious.
