ਬੰਦਿਸਾਲ ਕੋ ਭੂਪ ਤਬ ਨਿਜੁ ਸੁਤ ਦਿਯੋ ਪਠਾਇ ॥

bandisaal ko bhoop tab nij sut diyo patthaae |

The Raja then put the son in the prison.

ਭੋਰ ਹੋਤ ਅਪਨੇ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਹੁਰੌ ਲਿਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

bhor hot apane nikatt bahurau liyo bulaae |1|

And early next morning he called him over.(1)

ਏਕ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਿਕਾ ਗ੍ਵਾਰ ਕੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਹੋ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥

ek putrikaa gvaar kee taa ko kaho bichaar |

(Then his Minister commenced narrating thus:) There lived a girl in a town.

ਏਕ ਮੋਟਿਯਾ ਯਾਰ ਤਿਹ ਔਰ ਪਤਰਿਯਾ ਯਾਰ ॥੨॥

ek mottiyaa yaar tih aauar patariyaa yaar |2|

She had two lovers one was thin and lean, and the other a fat one.(2)

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਚਛੁਮਤੀ ਰਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

sree mrig chachhumatee rahai taa ko roop apaar |

She was very pretty and possessed the eyes like of an antelope.

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਜੁਹਾਰ ॥੩॥

aooch neech taa sau sadaa nitaprat karai juhaar |3|

She had full consciousness of understanding the highs and lows of the life.( 3)
