Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:

ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਮੇਘ ਘਟਾ ਘਟ ਦਾਮਨਿ ਚਮਕਿ ਡਰਾਇਓ ॥

deh dis chhatr megh ghattaa ghatt daaman chamak ddaraaeo |

In the ten directions, the clouds cover the sky like a canopy; through the dark clouds, lightning flashes, and I am terrified.

ਸੇਜ ਇਕੇਲੀ ਨੀਦ ਨਹੁ ਨੈਨਹ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥

sej ikelee need nahu nainah pir parades sidhaaeo |1|

By bed is empty, and my eyes are sleepless; my Husband Lord has gone far away. ||1||

ਹੁਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥

hun nahee sandesaro maaeo |

Now, I receive no messages from Him, O mother!

ਏਕ ਕੋਸਰੋ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਰਤ ਲਾਲੁ ਤਬ ਚਤੁਰ ਪਾਤਰੋ ਆਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ek kosaro sidh karat laal tab chatur paataro aaeo | rahaau |

When my Beloved used to go even a mile away, He would send me four letters. ||Pause||

ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਓ ॥

kiau bisarai ihu laal piaaro sarab gunaa sukhadaaeo |

How could I forget this Dear Beloved of mine? He is the Giver of peace, and all virtues.

ਮੰਦਰਿ ਚਰਿ ਕੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਨੈਨ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਓ ॥੨॥

mandar char kai panth nihaarau nain neer bhar aaeo |2|

Ascending to His Mansion, I gaze upon His path, and my eyes are filled with tears. ||2||

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਭੀਤਿ ਭਇਓ ਹੈ ਬੀਚੋ ਸੁਨਤ ਦੇਸਿ ਨਿਕਟਾਇਓ ॥

hau hau bheet bheo hai beecho sunat des nikattaaeo |

The wall of egotism and pride separates us, but I can hear Him nearby.

ਭਾਂਭੀਰੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਤ ਪਰਦੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਦੂਰਾਇਓ ॥੩॥

bhaanbheeree ke paat parado bin pekhe dooraaeo |3|

There is a veil between us, like the wings of a butterfly; without being able to see Him, He seems so far away. ||3||

ਭਇਓ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਗਰੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥

bheo kirapaal sarab ko tthaakur sagaro dookh mittaaeo |

The Lord and Master of all has become merciful; He has dispelled all my sufferings.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਭੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਤਉ ਦਇਆਰੁ ਬੀਠਲੋ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੪॥

kahu naanak haumai bheet gur khoee tau deaar beetthalo paaeo |4|

Says Nanak, when the Guru tore down the wall of egotism, then, I found my Merciful Lord and Master. ||4||

ਸਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਅੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਮਾਇਓ ॥

sabh rahio andesaro maaeo |

All my fears have been dispelled, O mother!

ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ॥

jo chaahat so guroo milaaeo |

Whoever I seek, the Guru leads me to find.

ਸਰਬ ਗੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧੧॥੬੧॥

sarab gunaa nidh raaeo | rahaau doojaa |11|61|

The Lord, our King, is the treasure of all virtue. ||Second Pause||11||61||
