ਜਿਉ ਮਣਿ ਕਾਲੇ ਸਪ ਸਿਰਿ ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ।

jiau man kaale sap sir has has ras ras dee na jaanai |

The snake has jewel in its head but it knows not to yield it willingly i.e. for getting it, it has to be killed..

ਜਾਣੁ ਕਥੂਰੀ ਮਿਰਗ ਤਨਿ ਜੀਵਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਆਣੈ ।

jaan kathooree mirag tan jeevadiaan kiaun koee aanai |

Likewise how can the musk of a deer be obtained while it is alive.

ਆਰਣਿ ਲੋਹਾ ਤਾਈਐ ਘੜੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਵਗਦੇ ਵਾਦਾਣੈ ।

aaran lohaa taaeeai gharreeai jiau vagade vaadaanai |

The furnace, only heats the iron, but a desired and fixed shape is given to iron only by hammering it.

ਸੂਰਣੁ ਮਾਰਣਿ ਸਾਧੀਐ ਖਾਹਿ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਵਾਣੈ ।

ਪਾਨ ਸੁਪਾਰੀ ਕਥੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਚੂਨੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੁਰੰਗੁ ਸਿਞਾਣੈ ।

ਅਉਖਧੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਾਲਕੂਟੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਨਿ ਵੈਦ ਸੁਜਾਣੈ ।

aaukhadh hovai kaalakoott maar jeevaalan vaid sujaanai |

ਮਨੁ ਪਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸਿ ਆਣੈ ।੨੨।੩੩। ਤੇਤੀ ।
