ਨਾਇਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਬਨਜਾਰੇ ਪਾਚ ॥

naaeik ek banajaare paach |

There is one merchant and five traders.

ਬਰਧ ਪਚੀਸਕ ਸੰਗੁ ਕਾਚ ॥

baradh pacheesak sang kaach |

The twenty-five oxen carry false merchandise.

ਨਉ ਬਹੀਆਂ ਦਸ ਗੋਨਿ ਆਹਿ ॥

nau baheean das gon aaeh |

There are nine poles which hold the ten bags.

ਕਸਨਿ ਬਹਤਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

kasan bahatar laagee taeh |1|

The body is tied by the seventy-two ropes. ||1||

ਮੋਹਿ ਐਸੇ ਬਨਜ ਸਿਉ ਨਹੀਨ ਕਾਜੁ ॥

mohi aise banaj siau naheen kaaj |

I don't care at all about such commerce.

ਜਿਹ ਘਟੈ ਮੂਲੁ ਨਿਤ ਬਢੈ ਬਿਆਜੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jih ghattai mool nit badtai biaaj | rahaau |

It depletes my capital, and the interest charges only increase. ||Pause||

ਸਾਤ ਸੂਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਨਜੁ ਕੀਨ ॥

saat soot mil banaj keen |

Weaving the seven threads together, they carry on their trade.

ਕਰਮ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਨ ॥

karam bhaavanee sang leen |

They are led on by the karma of their past actions.

ਤੀਨਿ ਜਗਾਤੀ ਕਰਤ ਰਾਰਿ ॥

teen jagaatee karat raar |

The three tax-collectors argue with them.

ਚਲੋ ਬਨਜਾਰਾ ਹਾਥ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

chalo banajaaraa haath jhaar |2|

The traders depart empty-handed. ||2||

ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹਿਰਾਨੀ ਬਨਜੁ ਟੂਟ ॥

poonjee hiraanee banaj ttoott |

Their capital is exhausted, and their trade is ruined.

ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਟਾਂਡੋ ਗਇਓ ਫੂਟਿ ॥

deh dis ttaanddo geo foott |

The caravan is scattered in the ten directions.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨ ਸਰਸੀ ਕਾਜ ॥

keh kabeer man sarasee kaaj |

Says Kabeer, O mortal, your tasks will be accomplished,

ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਨੋ ਤ ਭਰਮ ਭਾਜ ॥੩॥੬॥

sehaj samaano ta bharam bhaaj |3|6|

when you merge in the Celestial Lord; let your doubts run away. ||3||6||
