ਆਨੰਦ ਪੁਰ ਨਾਇਨ ਇਕ ਰਹਈ ॥

aanand pur naaein ik rahee |

ਨੰਦ ਮਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਗ ਕਹਈ ॥

nand matee taa ko jag kahee |

A female barber lived in Anandpur, she was known in the world as Nand Mati.

ਮੂਰਖ ਨਾਥ ਤਵਨ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ॥

Her husband was a simpleton and he never constrained his wife.(1)

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

taa ke dhaam bahut jan aavai |

ਨਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

nis din taa so bhog kamaavai |

Lot of people used to come to her house, and every day she made love with them.

ਸੋ ਜੜ ਪਰਾ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਰਹਈ ॥

so jarr paraa hamaare rahee |

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਹਈ ॥੨॥

That fool always remained with us whole day and never checked his wife off.(2)

ਜਬ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਵਹੁ ਧਾਮ ਸਿਧਾਵੈ ॥

jab kabahoon vahu dhaam sidhaavai |

ਯੌ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥

yau taa so triy bachan sunaavai |

Whenever he came back home, his wife would pronounce,

ਯਾ ਕਹ ਕਲਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

yaa keh kal kee baat na laagee |

ਮੇਰੋ ਪਿਯਾ ਬਡੋ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥

mero piyaa baddo baddabhaagee |3|

‘He is not induced by the modern-day influences, as he has been endowed with noble destiny.’(3)
