Gauree:

ਜਿਉ ਕਪਿ ਕੇ ਕਰ ਮੁਸਟਿ ਚਨਨ ਕੀ ਲੁਬਧਿ ਨ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਦਇਓ ॥

jiau kap ke kar musatt chanan kee lubadh na tiaag deo |

Like the monkey with a handful of grain, who will not let go because of greed

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਲਾਲਚ ਸਿਉ ਤੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਰਹਿ ਪਰਿਓ ॥੧॥

jo jo karam kee laalach siau te fir gareh pario |1|

- just so, all the deeds committed in greed ultimately become a noose around one's neck. ||1||

ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਓ ॥

bhagat bin birathe janam geo |

Without devotional worship, human life passes away in vain.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਸਚੁ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

saadhasangat bhagavaan bhajan bin kahee na sach rahio |1| rahaau |

Without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, without vibrating and meditating on the Lord God, one does not abide in Truth. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਉ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਕੁਸਮ ਪਰਫੁਲਿਤ ਕਿਨਹਿ ਨ ਘ੍ਰਾਉ ਲਇਓ ॥

jiau udiaan kusam parafulit kineh na ghraau leo |

Like the flower which blossoms in the wilderness with no one to enjoy its fragrance,

ਤੈਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਲ ਹਇਓ ॥੨॥

taise bhramat anek jon meh fir fir kaal heo |2|

so do people wander in reincarnation; over and over again, they are destroyed by Death. ||2||

ਇਆ ਧਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਜੁ ਦਇਓ ॥

eaa dhan joban ar sut daaraa pekhan kau ju deo |

This wealth, youth, children and spouse which the Lord has given you - this is all just a passing show.

ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਟਕਿ ਜੋ ਉਰਝੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਲਇਓ ॥੩॥

tin hee maeh attak jo urajhe indree prer leo |3|

Those who are caught and entangled in these are carried away by sensual desire. ||3||

ਅਉਧ ਅਨਲ ਤਨੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸ ਠਾਟੁ ਠਇਓ ॥

aaudh anal tan tin ko mandar chahu dis tthaatt ttheo |

Age is the fire, and the body is the house of straw; on all four sides, this play is being played out.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਤਰਨ ਕਉ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਲਇਓ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥੫੯॥

keh kabeer bhai saagar taran kau mai satigur ott leo |4|1|8|59|

Says Kabeer, to cross over the terriffying world-ocean, I have taken to the Shelter of the True Guru. ||4||1||8||59||
