The Slaying of Sri Baran:
ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਰਣੇ ਸੁਕਰਨਿ ਸਿਯਾਮ ਸੁਵਰਨ ਪੂਛ ਸਮਾਨ ॥
chandr barane sukaran siyaam suvaran poochh samaan |
(The Sacrificial horse) is of white colour, black ears having golden tail
ਰਤਨ ਤੁੰਗ ਉਤੰਗ ਬਾਜਤ ਉਚ ਸ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਸਮਾਨ ॥
ratan tung utang baajat uch sravaah samaan |
With eyes high and wide and lofty neck like Unhchyishravas
ਨਿਰਤ ਕਰਤ ਚਲੈ ਧਰਾ ਪਰਿ ਕਾਮ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਇ ॥
nirat karat chalai dharaa par kaam roop prabhaae |
He walks on the earth with dancing pose, glorious in beauty like Cupid.
ਦੇਖਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਛਕੈ ਸਭੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰੀਝਿ ਇਉ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਇ ॥੯॥੧੫੦॥
dekh dekh chhakai sabhai nrip reejh iau nriparaae |9|150|
On seeing him all the kings are pleased and also (Yudhishtra) the king of king.9.150.
ਬੀਣ ਬੇਣ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਬਾਜਤ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ਸੁਰਨਾਇ ॥
been ben mridang baajat baasuree suranaae |
Vina, Ven Mridang, Bansuri and Bheri are being played.
ਮੁਰਜ ਤੂਰ ਮੁਚੰਗ ਮੰਦਲ ਚੰਗ ਬੰਗ ਸਨਾਇ ॥
muraj toor muchang mandal chang bang sanaae |
Innumerable Muj, Toor, Murchang, Mandal, Changbeg and sarnaaee
ਢੋਲ ਢੋਲਕ ਖੰਜਕਾ ਡਫ ਝਾਝ ਕੋਟ ਬਜੰਤ ॥
dtol dtolak khanjakaa ddaf jhaajh kott bajant |
Dhol, Dholak, Khanjari, Daph and Jhaanjh are also being played.
ਜੰਗ ਘੁੰਘਰੂ ਟਲਕਾ ਉਪਜੰਤ ਰਾਗ ਅਨੰਤ ॥੧੦॥੧੫੧॥
jang ghungharoo ttalakaa upajant raag anant |10|151|
Big bell and small bells resound and innumerable modes of music are created.10.151.
ਅਮਿਤ ਸਬਦ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਭੇਰਿ ਹਰੰਤ ਬਾਜ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
amit sabad bajantr bher harant baaj apaar |
Kettledrums when played produce unlimited sound and innumerable horses neigh.
ਜਾਤ ਜਉਨ ਦਿਸਾਨ ਕੇ ਪਛ ਲਾਗ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਦਾਰ ॥
jaat jaun disaan ke pachh laag hee siradaar |
Wherever the horse named Sri Barn goes, the army chiefs follow him.
ਜਉਨ ਬਾਧ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਜੂਝਤ ਜੀਤੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਜੁਧ ॥
jaun baadh turang joojhat jeeteeai kar judh |
Whosoever chains the horse, they fight with him and conquer him.
ਆਨ ਜੌਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਚੈ ਨਹਿ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ॥੧੧॥੧੫੨॥
aan jauan milai bachai neh maareeai kar krudh |11|152|
He who receives them, he is saved, otherwise one who confronts, is violently killed.11.152.
ਹੈਯ ਫੇਰ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਸਾਨ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਜੀਤ ਕੈ ਛਿਤਪਾਲ ॥
haiy fer chaar disaan mai sabh jeet kai chhitapaal |
All the king were conquered by sending the horse in all the four directions.
ਬਾਜਮੇਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਸਪੂਰਨ ਅਮਿਤ ਜਗ ਰਿਸਾਲ ॥
baajamedh kariyo sapooran amit jag risaal |
The horse-sacrifice was thus completed, it is very great and marvelous in the world.
ਭਾਤ ਭਾਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਦਾਨ ਸੁ ਦੀਜੀਅਹਿ ਦਿਜਰਾਜ ॥
bhaat bhaat anek daan su deejeeeh dijaraaj |
Various types of materials were given to the Brahmins in charity.
ਭਾਤ ਭਾਤ ਪਟੰਬਰਾਦਿਕ ਬਾਜਿਯੋ ਗਜਰਾਜ ॥੧੨॥੧੫੩॥
bhaat bhaat pattanbaraadik baajiyo gajaraaj |12|153|
Also many types of silken clothes, horses and great elephant.12.153.
ਅਨੇਕ ਦਾਨ ਦੀਏ ਦਿਜਾਨਨ ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
anek daan dee dijaanan amit darab apaar |
Many gifts and unaccountable wealth was given in charity to innumerable Brahmins.
ਹੀਰ ਚੀਰ ਪਟੰਬਰਾਦਿ ਸੁਵਰਨ ਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰ ॥
heer cheer pattanbaraad suvaran ke bahu bhaar |
Including diamonds, common clothes, silken clothes and many loads of gold.
ਦੁਸਟ ਪੁਸਟ ਤ੍ਰਸੇ ਸਬੈ ਥਰਹਰਿਓ ਸੁਨਿ ਗਿਰਰਾਇ ॥
dusatt pusatt trase sabai tharahario sun giraraae |
All the great enemies were horrified and even Sumeru, the king of mountain trembled on listening the details of charity.
ਕਾਟਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਨ ਦੈ ਦ੍ਵਿਜੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਾਟ ਬਾਟ ਲੁਟਾਇ ॥੧੩॥੧੫੪॥
kaatt kaatt na dai dvijai nrip baatt baatt luttaae |13|154|
Fearing that the Chief Sovereign may not cut him into bits and then distribute the bits.13.154.
ਫੇਰ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਦੇਸ ਮੈ ਹਯ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਮਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
fer kai sabh des mai hay maario makh jaae |
Moving it throughout the country, the horse was ultimately killed in the sacrificial place
ਕਾਟਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਤਬੈ ਪਲ ਕੈ ਕਰੈ ਚਤੁ ਭਾਇ ॥
kaatt kai tih ko tabai pal kai karai chat bhaae |
Then it was cut into four pieces (parts).
ਏਕ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਨ ਏਕ ਛਤ੍ਰਨ ਏਕ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਦੀਨ ॥
ek bipran ek chhatran ek isatrin deen |
One part was given to the Brahmins, one to Kshatriyas and one to women.
ਚਤ੍ਰ ਅੰਸ ਬਚਿਯੋ ਜੁ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਮ ਮੈ ਵਹਿ ਕੀਨ ॥੧੪॥੧੫੫॥
chatr ans bachiyo ju taa te hom mai veh keen |14|155|
The remaining fourth part was burnt in the fire-altar.14.155.
ਪੰਚ ਸੈ ਬਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਸੁ ਰਾਜ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਦੀਪ ॥
panch sai barakh pramaan su raaj kai ih deep |
After ruling this Dvipa for five hundred years.
ਅੰਤ ਜਾਇ ਗਿਰੇ ਰਸਾਤਲ ਪੰਡ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਹੀਪ ॥
ant jaae gire rasaatal pandd putr maheep |
These sons of king Pandu ultimately fell in the himalayas (neither-world).
ਭੂਮ ਭਰਤ ਭਏ ਪਰੀਛਤ ਪਰਮ ਰੂਪ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
bhoom bharat bhe pareechhat param roop mahaan |
After them Parikshat, who was most beautiful and mighty, (their grandson, the son of Abhimanya) became the king of Bharat.
ਅਮਿਤ ਰੂਪ ਉਦਾਰ ਦਾਨ ਅਛਿਜ ਤੇਜ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥੧੫॥੧੫੬॥
amit roop udaar daan achhij tej nidhaan |15|156|
He was man of boundless charm, a generous donor and a treasure of invincible glory.15.156.
