ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਆਪੇ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥
aape sabad aape neesaan |
He Himself is the Word of the Shabad, and He Himself is the Insignia.
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
aape surataa aape jaan |
He Himself is the Listener, and He Himself is the Knower.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
aape kar kar vekhai taan |
He Himself created the creation, and He Himself beholds His almighty power.
ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥
too daataa naam paravaan |1|
You are the Great Giver; Your Name alone is approved. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥
aisaa naam niranjan deo |
Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord.
ਹਉ ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hau jaachik too alakh abheo |1| rahaau |
I am just a beggar; You are invisible and unknowable. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਧਰਕਟੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
maaeaa mohu dharakattee naar |
Love of Maya is like a cursed woman,
ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿਆਰਿ ॥
bhoonddee kaaman kaamaniaar |
Ugly, dirty and promiscuous.
ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
raaj roop jhootthaa din chaar |
Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days.
ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥
naam milai chaanan andhiaar |2|
But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2||
ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
chakh chhoddee sahasaa nahee koe |
I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts.
ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
baap disai vejaat na hoe |
One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate.
ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
eke kau naahee bhau koe |
One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
karataa kare karaavai soe |3|
The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3||
ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
sabad mue man man te maariaa |
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind.
ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
tthaak rahe man saachai dhaariaa |
Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
avar na soojhai gur kau vaariaa |
He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak naam rate nisataariaa |4|3|
O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3||
