RASAAVAL STANZA

ਰਣੰ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

ranan pekh raaman |

ਧੁਜੰ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮੰ ॥

dhujan dharam dhaaman |

Seeing Ram, the Dharma-incarnate, in the battlefield and uttering various shouts from their mouth,

ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਢੂਕੇ ॥

chahoon or dtooke |

ਮੁਖੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੂਕੇ ॥੬੯॥

mukhan maar kooke |69|

The demons rushed forth all the four directions and gathered together.69.

ਬਜੇ ਘੋਰ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

baje ghor baaje |

ਧੁਣੰ ਮੇਘ ਲਾਜੇ ॥

dhunan megh laaje |

The musical instruments resounded violently and hearing their sounds, he clouds felt shy.

ਝੰਡਾ ਗਡ ਗਾੜੇ ॥

jhanddaa gadd gaarre |

ਮੰਡੇ ਬੈਰ ਬਾੜੇ ॥੭੦॥

mandde bair baarre |70|

Fixing their banners on the earth the demons, filled with enmity began to wage war.70.

ਕੜਕੇ ਕਮਾਣੰ ॥

karrake kamaanan |

ਝੜਕੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ॥

jharrake kripaanan |

The bows clattered and the swords struck.

ਢਲਾ ਢੁਕ ਢਾਲੈ ॥

dtalaa dtuk dtaalai |

ਚਲੀ ਪੀਤ ਪਾਲੈ ॥੭੧॥

chalee peet paalai |71|

There was great knocking on the shields and the swords falling on them performed the rite of love.71.

ਰਣੰ ਰੰਗ ਰਤੇ ॥

ranan rang rate |

ਮਨੋ ਮਲ ਮਤੇ ॥

mano mal mate |

All the warriors were absorbed in the war so much like the werestlers in th wrestling arena.

ਸਰੰ ਧਾਰ ਬਰਖੇ ॥

saran dhaar barakhe |

ਮਹਿਖੁਆਸ ਕਰਖੈ ॥੭੨॥

mahikhuaas karakhai |72|

The arrows were showered and there was the crackling of the bows.72.

ਕਰੀ ਬਾਨ ਬਰਖਾ ॥

karee baan barakhaa |

ਸੁਣੇ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਖਾ ॥

sune jeet karakhaa |

Wishing for their victory, the demons showered their arrows.

ਸੁਬਾਹੰ ਮਰੀਚੰ ॥

subaahan mareechan |

ਚਲੇ ਬਾਛ ਮੀਚੰ ॥੭੩॥

chale baachh meechan |73|

Sabahu and Marich, knocking their teeth in fury, marched forward.73.

ਇਕੈ ਬਾਰ ਟੂਟੇ ॥

eikai baar ttootte |

ਮਨੋ ਬਾਜ ਛੂਟੇ ॥

mano baaj chhootte |

Both of them together pounced upon like a falcon, and,

ਲਯੋ ਘੋਰਿ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

layo ghor raaman |

ਸਸੰ ਜੇਮ ਕਾਮੰ ॥੭੪॥

sasan jem kaaman |74|

They surrounded ram like the Cupid (Kamdev), surrounding the moon.74.

ਘਿਰਯੋ ਦੈਤ ਸੈਣੰ ॥

ghirayo dait sainan |

ਜਿਮੰ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਮੈਣੰ ॥

jiman rudr mainan |

Ram was surrounded by the forces of demons like Shiva by the forces of Cupid (Kamdev).

ਰੁਕੇ ਰਾਮ ਜੰਗੰ ॥

ruke raam jangan |

ਮਨੋ ਸਿੰਧ ਗੰਗੰ ॥੭੫॥

mano sindh gangan |75|

Ram tarried there for war like Ganges on meeting the ocean.75.

ਰਣੰ ਰਾਮ ਬਜੇ ॥

ranan raam baje |

ਧੁਣੰ ਮੇਘ ਲਜੇ ॥

dhunan megh laje |

Ram shouted so loudly in the war that the clouds felt shy

ਰੁਲੇ ਤਛ ਮੁਛੰ ॥

rule tachh muchhan |

ਗਿਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਸ੍ਵਛੰ ॥੭੬॥

gire soor svachhan |76|

The warriors rolled in dust and mighty heroes fell on the earth.76.

ਚਲੈ ਐਂਠ ਮੁਛੈਂ ॥

chalai aintth muchhain |

ਕਹਾ ਰਾਮ ਪੁਛੈਂ ॥

kahaa raam puchhain |

Subadhu and Marich began to search for Ram, while twisting their whiskers,

ਅਬੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

abai haath laage |

ਕਹਾ ਜਾਹੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੭੭॥

kahaa jaahu bhaagai |77|

And said, “Where will he go and save himself, we will catch him just now.”77.

ਰਿਪੰ ਪੇਖ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

ripan pekh raaman |

ਹਠਿਯੋ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮੰ ॥

hatthiyo dharam dhaaman |

Seeing the enemies Ram became persistent and serious,

ਕਰੈ ਨੈਣ ਰਾਤੰ ॥

karai nain raatan |

ਧਨੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਗਯਾਤੰ ॥੭੮॥

dhanur bed gayaatan |78|

And the eyes of that knower of the science of archery, reddened.78.

ਧਨੰ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਕਰਖਿਯੋ ॥

dhanan ugr karakhiyo |

ਸਰੰਧਾਰ ਬਰਖਿਯੋ ॥

sarandhaar barakhiyo |

The bow of Ram raised a terrible sound and showered a volley of arrows.

ਹਣੀ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੈਣੰ ॥

hanee satr sainan |

ਹਸੇ ਦੇਵ ਗੈਣੰ ॥੭੯॥

hase dev gainan |79|

The armies of the enemy were being destroyed, seeing which the gods smiled in heaven.79.

ਭਜੀ ਸਰਬ ਸੈਣੰ ॥

bhajee sarab sainan |

ਲਖੀ ਮ੍ਰੀਚ ਨੈਣੰ ॥

lakhee mreech nainan |

Marich saw his army running away,

ਫਿਰਿਯੋ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਯੋ ॥

firiyo ros preriyo |

ਮਨੋ ਸਾਪ ਛੇੜਯੋ ॥੮੦॥

mano saap chherrayo |80|

And challenged his forces in great ire like the rage of a snake.80.

ਹਣਿਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

haniyo raam baanan |

ਕਰਿਯੋ ਸਿੰਧ ਪਯਾਣੰ ॥

kariyo sindh payaanan |

Ram discharge his arrow towards Marich, who ran towards the sea.

ਤਜਿਯੋ ਰਾਜ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

tajiyo raaj desan |

ਲਿਯੋ ਜੋਗ ਭੇਸੰ ॥੮੧॥

liyo jog bhesan |81|

He adopted the garb of a Yogi, abandoning his kingdom and country.81.

ਸੁ ਬਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥

su basatran utaare |

ਭਗਵੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

bhagave basatr dhaare |

He wore the garments of a Yogi on forsaking the beautiful royal dress,

ਬਸਯੋ ਲੰਕ ਬਾਗੰ ॥

basayo lank baagan |

ਪੁਨਰ ਦ੍ਰੋਹ ਤਿਆਗੰ ॥੮੨॥

punar droh tiaagan |82|

And abandoning all inimical ideas, he began to live in a cottage in Lanka.82.

ਸਰੋਸੰ ਸੁਬਾਹੰ ॥

sarosan subaahan |

ਚੜਯੋ ਲੈ ਸਿਪਾਹੰ ॥

charrayo lai sipaahan |

Subahu marched forward alongwith his soldiers in great rage,]

ਠਟਯੋ ਆਣ ਜੁਧੰ ॥

tthattayo aan judhan |

ਭਯੋ ਨਾਦ ਉਧੰ ॥੮੩॥

bhayo naad udhan |83|

And in the war of arrows, he also heard the terrible sound.83.

ਸੁਭੰ ਸੈਣ ਸਾਜੀ ॥

subhan sain saajee |

ਤੁਰੇ ਤੁੰਦ ਤਾਜੀ ॥

ture tund taajee |

In the bedecked forces, very swift horses began to run

ਗਜਾ ਜੂਹ ਗਜੇ ॥

gajaa jooh gaje |

ਧੁਣੰ ਮੇਘ ਲਜੇ ॥੮੪॥

dhunan megh laje |84|

The elephants roared in all the for directions and in front of their roars, the thunder of clouds appeared very dull.84.

ਢਕਾ ਢੁਕ ਢਾਲੰ ॥

dtakaa dtuk dtaalan |

ਸੁਭੀ ਪੀਤ ਲਾਲੰ ॥

subhee peet laalan |

The knocking on the shields was audible and the yellow and red shields looked impressive.

ਗਹੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਠੇ ॥

gahe sasatr utthe |

ਸਰੰਧਾਰ ਬੁਠੇ ॥੮੫॥

sarandhaar butthe |85|

The warriors began to rise holding their weapons in their hands, and there was a continuous flow of shafts.85.

ਬਹੈ ਅਗਨ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ॥

bahai agan asatran |

ਛੁਟੇ ਸਰਬ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ॥

chhutte sarab sasatran |

The fire-shafts were discharged and the weapons began to fall form the hands of the warriors .

ਰੰਗੇ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਐਸੇ ॥

ਚੜੇ ਬਯਾਹ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੮੬॥

The brave fighters saturated with blood appeared like the participants in a marriage party wearing red garments.86.

ਘਣੈ ਘਾਇ ਘੂਮੇ ॥

ghanai ghaae ghoome |

ਮਦੀ ਜੈਸ ਝੂਮੇ ॥

madee jais jhoome |

Many wounded people are roaming like a drunkard swinging in intoxication.

ਗਹੇ ਬੀਰ ਐਸੇ ॥

gahe beer aise |

ਫੁਲੈ ਫੂਲ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੮੭॥

fulai fool jaise |87|

The warriors have caught hold of each other like a flower meeting the other flower joyfully.87.

ਹਠਿਯੋ ਦਾਨਵੇਸੰ ॥

hatthiyo daanavesan |

ਭਯੋ ਆਪ ਭੇਸੰ ॥

bhayo aap bhesan |

The demon-king was killed and he attained his real form.

ਬਜੇ ਘੋਰ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

baje ghor baaje |

ਧੁਣੰ ਅਭ੍ਰ ਲਾਜੇ ॥੮੮॥

dhunan abhr laaje |88|

The musical instruments were played and listening to their sound, the clouds felt.88.

ਰਥੀ ਨਾਗ ਕੂਟੇ ॥

rathee naag kootte |

ਫਿਰੈਂ ਬਾਜ ਛੂਟੈ ॥

firain baaj chhoottai |

Many charioteers were killed and the horses began to roam in the battlefield unclaimed.

ਭਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

bhayo judh bhaaree |

ਛੁਟੀ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੮੯॥

chhuttee rudr taaree |89|

This war was so dreadful that even the meditation of Shiva was ruptured.89.

ਬਜੇ ਘੰਟ ਭੇਰੀ ॥

baje ghantt bheree |

ਡਹੇ ਡਾਮ ਡੇਰੀ ॥

ddahe ddaam dderee |

The resounding of the gongs, drums and tabors began.

ਰਣੰਕੇ ਨਿਸਾਣੰ ॥

rananke nisaanan |

ਕਣੰਛੇ ਕਿਕਾਣੰ ॥੯੦॥

kananchhe kikaanan |90|

The trumpets were sounded and the horses neighed.90.

ਧਹਾ ਧੂਹ ਧੋਪੰ ॥

dhahaa dhooh dhopan |

ਟਕਾ ਟੂਕ ਟੋਪੰ ॥

ttakaa ttook ttopan |

Various sounds arose in the battlefield and there were knocking on the helmets.

ਕਟੇ ਚਰਮ ਬਰਮੰ ॥

katte charam baraman |

ਪਲਿਯੋ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਧਰਮੰ ॥੯੧॥

paliyo chhatr dharaman |91|

The armours on the bodies were chopped and the heroes followed the discipline of Kshatriyas.91.

ਭਯੋ ਦੁੰਦ ਜੁਧੰ ॥

bhayo dund judhan |

ਭਰਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੁਧੰ ॥

bharayo raam krudhan |

Ram was highly infuriated on seeing the continuance of the terrible war.

ਕਟੀ ਦੁਸਟ ਬਾਹੰ ॥

kattee dusatt baahan |

ਸੰਘਾਰਯੋ ਸੁਬਾਹੰ ॥੯੨॥

sanghaarayo subaahan |92|

He chopped the arms of Subahu and killed him.92.

ਤ੍ਰਸੈ ਦੈਤ ਭਾਜੇ ॥

trasai dait bhaaje |

ਰਣੰ ਰਾਮ ਗਾਜੇ ॥

ranan raam gaaje |

On seeing this, the frightened demons ran away and Ram thundered in the battlefield.

ਭੁਅੰ ਭਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

bhuan bhaar utaariyo |

ਰਿਖੀਸੰ ਉਬਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੯੩॥

rikheesan ubaariyo |93|

Ram lightened the burden of the earth and protected the sages.93.

ਸਭੈ ਸਾਧ ਹਰਖੇ ॥

sabhai saadh harakhe |

ਭਏ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਖੇ ॥

bhe jeet karakhe |

All the saints were pleased over the victory.

ਕਰੈ ਦੇਵ ਅਰਚਾ ॥

karai dev arachaa |

ਰਰੈ ਬੇਦ ਚਰਚਾ ॥੯੪॥

rarai bed charachaa |94|

The gods were worshipped and the discussion on Vedas began.94.

ਭਯੋ ਜਗ ਪੂਰੰ ॥

bhayo jag pooran |

ਗਏ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰੰ ॥

ge paap dooran |

The Yajna (of Vishwamitra) was complete and all the sins were destroyed.

ਸੁਰੰ ਸਰਬ ਹਰਖੇ ॥

suran sarab harakhe |

ਧਨੰਧਾਰ ਬਰਖੇ ॥੯੫॥

dhanandhaar barakhe |95|

On seeing this, the gods were pleased and began to shower flowers.95.
