Kaydaaraa, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸ੍ਰੋਤ ॥

har ke naam bin dhrig srot |

Without the Name of the Lord, one's ears are cursed.

ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਕਤ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੋਤ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jeevan roop bisaar jeeveh tih kat jeevan hot | rahaau |

Those who forget the Embodiment of Life - what is the point of their lives? ||Pause||

ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਭਾਰ ਬਾਹਕ ਖੋਤ ॥

khaat peet anek binjan jaise bhaar baahak khot |

One who eats and drinks countless delicacies is no more than a donkey, a beast of burden.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਜੰਤੀ ਜੋਤ ॥੧॥

aatth pehar mahaa sram paaeaa jaise birakh jantee jot |1|

Twenty-four hours a day, he endures terrible suffering, like the bull, chained to the oil-press. ||1||

ਤਜਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਜਿ ਆਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਰੋਤ ॥

taj goupaal ji aan laage se bahu prakaaree rot |

Forsaking the Life of the World, and attached to another, they weep and wail in so many ways.

ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਤ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੩॥

kar jor naanak daan maagai har rkhau kantth parot |2|5|13|

With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this gift; O Lord, please keep me strung around Your Neck. ||2||5||13||
