ਮਾਤਾ ਮਤਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥

maataa mat pitaa santokh |

Let wisdom be your mother, and contentment your father.

ਸਤੁ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਏਹੁ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥੧॥

sat bhaaee kar ehu visekh |1|

Let Truth be your brother - these are your best relatives. ||1||

ਕਹਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

kahanaa hai kichh kehan na jaae |

He has been described, but He cannot be described at all.

ਤਉ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tau kudarat keemat nahee paae |1| rahaau |

Your All-pervading creative nature cannot be estimated. ||1||Pause||

ਸਰਮ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਸਸੁਰ ਭਏ ॥

saram surat due sasur bhe |

Modesty, humility and intuitive understanding are my mother-in-law and father-in-law;

ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਲਏ ॥੨॥

karanee kaaman kar man le |2|

I have made good deeds my spouse. ||2||

ਸਾਹਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵੀਆਹੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ॥

saahaa sanjog veeaahu vijog |

Union with the Holy is my wedding date, and separation from the world is my marriage.

ਸਚੁ ਸੰਤਤਿ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੩॥੩॥

sach santat kahu naanak jog |3|3|

Says Nanak, Truth is the child born of this Union. ||3||3||
