ਸੂਰਜੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਦੋਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਕਰੈ ਅਨੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਏ ।

sooraj jot udot kar chaanan karai aner gavaae |

The sun with its bright rays dispels darkness and scatters light all around.

ਕਿਰਤਿ ਵਿਰਤਿ ਜਗ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ।

kirat virat jag varatamaan sabhanaan bandhan mukat karaae |

Seeing it the whole world gets engaged in business. The sun alone liberates all from the bondage (of darkness).

ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਮਿਰਗਾਵਲੀ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਲਾਉ ਸੁਣਾਏ ।

pas pankhee miragaavalee bhaakhiaa bhaau alaau sunaae |

Animals, birds and the herds of deer speak in their loving tongue.

ਬਾਂਗਾਂ ਬੁਰਗੂ ਸਿੰਙੀਆਂ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਨੀਸਾਣ ਵਜਾਏ ।

baangaan buragoo singeean naad baad neesaan vajaae |

Qazis give call (azan) for prayer, yogis blow their trumpet (sringi) and at the doors of kings drums are beaten.

ਘੁਘੂ ਸੁਝੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਜਾਇ ਉਜਾੜੀ ਝਥਿ ਵਲਾਏ ।

ghughoo sujh na sujhee jaae ujaarree jhath valaae |

Owl does not listen to either of these and spends its day in a desolate place.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਉ ਨ ਵਸਾਏ ।

saadhasangat gur sabad sun bhaau bhagat man bhau na vasaae |

Those who even listening to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation do not cultivate loving devotion in their heart, are manmukhs.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ।੬।

manamukh birathaa janam gavaae |6|

They spend their life in vain.
