BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਚਲੀ ਛੋਡਿ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਰਾਜ ਐਸੇ ॥
chalee chhodd taa kau treea raaj aise |
ਮਨੋ ਪਾਡੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੰ ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਜ ਜੈਸੇ ॥
mano paadd putran siree raaj jaise |
Leaving all of them, the princess moved forward like the Pandavas, the sons of Pandu, moving away after leaving their kingdom etc.
ਖਰੀ ਮਧਿ ਰਾਜਿਸਥਲੀ ਐਸ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
kharee madh raajisathalee ais sohai |
ਮਨੋ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਮਾਲਾ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਨਿ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੪੯॥
mano jvaal maalaa mahaa mon mohai |49|
Standing in the royal court, she appeared like the fascinating fire-flame.49.
ਸੁਭੇ ਰਾਜਿਸਥਲੀ ਠਾਢਿ ਐਸੇ ॥
subhe raajisathalee tthaadt aise |
ਮਨੋ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥
mano chitrakaaree likhee chitr jaise |
Standing in the royal court she appeared like the portrait of painter
ਬਧੇ ਸ੍ਵਰਣ ਕੀ ਕਿੰਕਣੀ ਲਾਲ ਮਾਲੰ ॥
badhe svaran kee kinkanee laal maalan |
ਸਿਖਾ ਜਾਨ ਸੋਭੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ਜਗਿ ਜ੍ਵਾਲੰ ॥੫੦॥
sikhaa jaan sobhe nripan jag jvaalan |50|
She was wearing a golden ornament (Kinkini) fitted with wreath of gems the pigtail of her hair was apparently like fire for the kings.50.
ਕਹੇ ਬੈਨ ਸਾਰਸ੍ਵਤੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
kahe bain saarasvatee pekh baalaa |
ਲਖੋ ਨੈਨਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਸਭੈ ਭੂਪ ਆਲਾ ॥
lakho nain tthaadte sabhai bhoop aalaa |
Sarasvati, seeing the damsel said to her again, “O princess! See these superb kings
ਰੁਚੈ ਚਿਤ ਜਉਨੈ ਸੁਈ ਨਾਥ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ruchai chit jaunai suee naath keejai |
ਸੁਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਇਹੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੫੧॥
suno praan piaaree ihai maan leejai |51|
O my beloved! Obey my saying wed him, whom you consider worthy in your mind.51.
ਬਡੀ ਬਾਹਨੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
baddee baahanee sang jaa ke biraajai |
ਘੁਰੈ ਸੰਗ ਭੇਰੀ ਮਹਾ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਜੈ ॥
ghurai sang bheree mahaa naad baajai |
“He, with whom there is a large army and the conches, battledrums and the war-horns are being played, see this great king
ਲਖੋ ਰੂਪ ਬੇਸੰ ਨਰੇਸੰ ਮਹਾਨੰ ॥
lakho roop besan naresan mahaanan |
ਦਿਨੰ ਰੈਣ ਜਾਪੈ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਭੁਜਾਨੰ ॥੫੨॥
dinan rain jaapai sahansr bhujaanan |52|
Whose thousand arms make the day appear as night.52.
ਧੁਜਾ ਮਧਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬਡੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜੈ ॥
dhujaa madh jaa ke baddo singh raajai |
ਸੁਨੇ ਨਾਦ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਮਹਾ ਪਾਪ ਭਾਜੈ ॥
sune naad taa ko mahaa paap bhaajai |
“In whose banner, there is seated a huge lion and hearing whose voice, the great sins are eliminated
ਲਖੋ ਪੂਰਬੀਸੰ ਛਿਤੀਸੰ ਮਹਾਨੰ ॥
lakho poorabeesan chhiteesan mahaanan |
ਸੁਨੋ ਬੈਨ ਬਾਲਾ ਸੁਰੂਪੰ ਸੁ ਭਾਨੰ ॥੫੩॥
suno bain baalaa suroopan su bhaanan |53|
O princess! See that sun-faced great king of the East.53.
ਘੁਰੈ ਦੁੰਦਭੀ ਸੰਖ ਭੇਰੀ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
ghurai dundabhee sankh bheree apaaran |
ਬਜੈ ਦਛਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਬਾਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਰੰ ॥
bajai dachhanee sarab baajantr saaran |
“Here the kettledrums, conches and drums are being played
ਤੁਰੀ ਕਾਨਰੇ ਤੂਰ ਤਾਨੰ ਤਰੰਗੰ ॥
turee kaanare toor taanan tarangan |
ਮੁਚੰ ਝਾਝਰੰ ਨਾਇ ਨਾਦੰ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗੰ ॥੫੪॥
muchan jhaajharan naae naadan mridangan |54|
The tones and tunes of many other instruments are being heard also the drums, anklets etc. are being played.54.
ਬਧੇ ਹੀਰ ਚੀਰੰ ਸੁ ਬੀਰੰ ਸੁਬਾਹੰ ॥
badhe heer cheeran su beeran subaahan |
ਬਡੋ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਸੋਭਿਓ ਸਿਪਾਹੰ ॥
baddo chhatradhaaree so sobhio sipaahan |
The warriors are wearing beautiful garments
ਨਹੇ ਪਿੰਗ ਬਾਜੀ ਰਥੰ ਜੇਣਿ ਜਾਨੋ ॥
nahe ping baajee rathan jen jaano |
ਤਿਸੈ ਦਛਨੇਸੰ ਹੀਐ ਬਾਲ ਮਾਨੋ ॥੫੫॥
tisai dachhanesan heeai baal maano |55|
And the canopied king is looking splendid alongwith his army he, whose chariot and its horses destroy large and mountain-sized warriors O princess! He is the king of the South.55.
ਮਹਾ ਬਾਹਨੀਸੰ ਨਗੀਸੰ ਨਰੇਸੰ ॥
mahaa baahaneesan nageesan naresan |
ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਤੰ ਸੁਭੈ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਭੇਸੰ ॥
kee kott paatan subhai patr bhesan |
ਧੁਜਾ ਬਧ ਉਧੰ ਗਜੰ ਗੂੜ ਬਾਕੋ ॥
dhujaa badh udhan gajan goorr baako |
ਲਖੋ ਉਤਰੀ ਰਾਜ ਕੈ ਨਾਮ ਤਾ ਕੋ ॥੫੬॥
lakho utaree raaj kai naam taa ko |56|
“The king who has a great army and in which there are millions of soldiers on foot in green uniforms, and whose beautiful elephants tied with banners, are roaming, O princess! He is the king of the North.56.
ਫਰੀ ਧੋਪ ਪਾਇਕ ਸੁ ਆਗੇ ਉਮੰਗੈ ॥

ਜਿਣੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਬੰਕੈ ਮੁਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਅੰਗੈ ॥
jinai kott bankai mure naeh angai |
ਹਰੇ ਬਾਜ ਰਾਜੰ ਕਪੋਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨੰ ॥
hare baaj raajan kapotan pramaanan |
ਨਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਯੰਦਨੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਸਮਾਣੰ ॥੫੭॥
nahe srayandanee indr baajee samaanan |57|
“He, before whom the army on foot is moving enthusiastically, and who after conquering millions, has not turned away from the war, whose horses are like pigeons and who has such chariots which are not even with Indra.57.
ਬਡੇ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਧਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਸੋਭੈ ॥
badde sring jaa ke dhare soor sobhai |
ਲਖੇ ਦੈਤ ਕੰਨ︀ਯਾ ਜਿਨੈ ਚਿਤ ਲੋਭੈ ॥
lakhe dait kanayaa jinai chit lobhai |
ਕਢੇ ਦੰਤ ਪਤੰ ਸਿਰੰ ਕੇਸ ਉਚੰ ॥
kadte dant patan siran kes uchan |
ਲਖੇ ਗਰਭਣੀ ਆਣਿ ਕੇ ਗਰਭ ਮੁਚੰ ॥੫੮॥
lakhe garabhanee aan ke garabh muchan |58|
“He, with whom there are warriors of the size of the peaks of the mountains and seeing whom, the damsels of the demons get fascinated, smile and wave the hair of their heads and in whose fear the pregnant women lose their pregnancies.58.
ਲਖੋ ਲੰਕ ਏਸੰ ਨਰੇਸੰ ਸੁ ਬਾਲੰ ॥
lakho lank esan naresan su baalan |
ਸਬੈ ਸੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਬੈ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਲੰ ॥
sabai sang jaa kai sabai lok paalan |
“That mighty one is the king of Lanka (Ceylon), in whose company there are also Lokpals
ਲੁਟਿਓ ਏਕ ਬੇਰੰ ਕੁਬੇਰੰ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥
luttio ek beran kuberan bhanddaaree |
ਜਿਣਿਓ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਡੋ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ॥੫੯॥
jinio indr raajaa baddo chhatradhaaree |59|
He had once looted the store of Kuber and had also defeated the mighty Indra.59.
ਕਹੇ ਜਉਨ ਬਾਲੀ ਨ ਤੇ ਚਿਤ ਆਨੇ ॥
kahe jaun baalee na te chit aane |
ਜਿਤੇ ਭੂਪ ਭਾਰੀ ਸੁ ਪਾਛੇ ਬਖਾਨੇ ॥
jite bhoop bhaaree su paachhe bakhaane |
“O princess! Tell me what is in your mind? The mention of the great kings has already been made
ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਹੋ ਨਾਮ ਸੋ ਭੀ ॥
chahoon or raajaa kaho naam so bhee |
ਤਜੇ ਭਾਤਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਸਬੈ ਰਾਜ ਓ ਭੀ ॥੬੦॥
taje bhaat jaisee sabai raaj o bhee |60|
There are kings and kings on all the four sides, but you have equally abandoned them all.60.
ਲਖੋ ਦਈਤ ਸੈਨਾ ਬਡੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
lakho deet sainaa baddee sang taa ke |
ਸੁਭੈ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ਬਡੇ ਸੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ॥
subhai chhatr dhaaree badde sang jaa ke |
“See that one who has a great army of demons with him
ਧੁਜਾ ਗਿਧ ਉਧੰ ਲਸੈ ਕਾਕ ਪੂਰੰ ॥
dhujaa gidh udhan lasai kaak pooran |
ਤਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਲ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਲੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਨੂਰੰ ॥੬੧॥
tisai piaal raajaa balee bridh nooran |61|
And with whom there are many canopied kings on whose banner the vultures and crows are sitting you may love that mighty king.61.
ਰਥੰ ਬੇਸਟੰ ਹੀਰ ਚੀਰੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
rathan besattan heer cheeran apaaran |
ਸੁਭੈ ਸੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸਭੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਰੰ ॥
subhai sang jaa ke sabhe lok paaran |
“He, who has charming garments and chariots and with whom there are all the Lokpals
ਇਹੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੁਰੰ ਦਾਨਵਾਰੰ ॥
eihai indr raajaa duran daanavaaran |
ਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਤਾਸ ਚੀਨੋ ਅਦਿਤਿਆ ਕੁਮਾਰੰ ॥੬੨॥
treea taas cheeno aditiaa kumaaran |62|
Even the king Indra conceals himself in fear because of his fame as a Donor O friend! He is the same Aditya Kumar.62.
ਨਹੇ ਸਪਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਰਥੰ ਏਕ ਚਕ੍ਰੰ ॥
nahe sapat baajee rathan ek chakran |
ਮਹਾ ਨਾਗ ਬਧੰ ਤਪੈ ਤੇਜ ਬਕ੍ਰੰ ॥
mahaa naag badhan tapai tej bakran |
“He, in whose chariot, there are seven horses and who can even destroy Sheshnaga with his glory
ਮਹਾ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਧੰਨ੍ਵਾ ਸੁ ਆਜਾਨ ਬਾਹੰ ॥
mahaa ugr dhanvaa su aajaan baahan |
ਸਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਚੀਨੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਦਿਉਸ ਨਾਹੰ ॥੬੩॥
sahee chit cheeno tisai diaus naahan |63|
Who has long arms and dreadful bow, recognize him as dinkar of Surya.63.
ਚੜਿਓ ਏਣ ਰਾਜੰ ਧਰੇ ਬਾਣ ਪਾਣੰ ॥
charrio en raajan dhare baan paanan |
ਨਿਸਾ ਰਾਜ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲਖੋ ਤੇਜ ਮਾਣੰ ॥
nisaa raaj taa ko lakho tej maanan |
ਕਰੈ ਰਸਮਿ ਮਾਲਾ ਉਜਾਲਾ ਪਰਾਨੰ ॥
karai rasam maalaa ujaalaa paraanan |
ਜਪੈ ਰਾਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਉਸੰ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰੀ ਭੁਜਾਨੰ ॥੬੪॥
japai raatr diausan sahansree bhujaanan |64|
“He, whom you see coming with his bow and arrow, he is the king of the night, the brilliant Chandra, who lightens up for all the creatures and whom thousands of people remember day and night.64.
ਚੜੇ ਮਹਿਖੀਸੰ ਸੁਮੇਰੰ ਜੁ ਦੀਸੰ ॥
charre mahikheesan sumeran ju deesan |
ਮਹਾ ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਕਰਮੰ ਜਿਣਿਓ ਬਾਹ ਬੀਸੰ ॥
mahaa kraoor karaman jinio baah beesan |
“This one, who while going for war, seems like a mountain and who has conquered greatly tyrannical, multi-armed kings
ਧੁਜਾ ਦੰਡ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੰ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
dhujaa dandd jaa kee prachanddan biraajai |
ਲਖੇ ਜਾਸ ਗਰਬੀਨ ਕੋ ਗਰਬ ਭਾਜੈ ॥੬੫॥
lakhe jaas garabeen ko garab bhaajai |65|
His banner is powerfully exhibiting its glory, seeing which, the pride of many egoists is shattered.65.
ਕਹਾ ਲੌ ਬਖਾਨੋ ਬਡੇ ਗਰਬਧਾਰੀ ॥
kahaa lau bakhaano badde garabadhaaree |
ਸਬੈ ਘੇਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜੁਰੀ ਭੀਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
sabai gher tthaadte juree bheer bhaaree |
“To what extent should I describe these great egoists? All of them are standing in groups and surrounding others
ਨਚੈ ਪਾਤਰਾ ਚਾਤੁਰਾ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ॥
nachai paataraa chaaturaa niratakaaree |
ਉਠੈ ਝਾਝ ਸਬਦੰ ਸੁਨੈ ਲੋਗ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੬੬॥
autthai jhaajh sabadan sunai log dhaaree |66|
The comely and clever prositiutes are dancing and the voice of the musical instruments is being heard.66.
ਬਡੋ ਦਿਰਬ ਧਾਰੀ ਬਡੀ ਸੈਨ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
baddo dirab dhaaree baddee sain leene |
ਬਡੋ ਦਿਰਬ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਗਰਬ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
baddo dirab ko chit mai garab keene |
“The great wealthy kings taking their armies with themselves and taking pride in their riche, are seated here
ਚਿਤੰ ਤਾਸ ਚੀਨੋ ਸਹੀ ਦਿਰਬ ਪਾਲੰ ॥
chitan taas cheeno sahee dirab paalan |
ਉਠੈ ਜਉਨ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਮਾਲੰ ॥੬੭॥
autthai jaun ke roop kee jvaal maalan |67|
O princess! see that king, the master of riches, from whose body the fires of beauty are arising.”67.
ਸਭੈ ਭੂਪ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਹਾ ਰਾਜ ਕੰਨਿਆ ॥
sabhai bhoop tthaadte jahaa raaj kaniaa |
ਬਿਖੈ ਭੂ ਤਲੰ ਰੂਪ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਨ ਅੰਨਿਆ ॥
bikhai bhoo talan roop jaa ke na aniaa |
Where there was the princess, all the kings were standing there
ਬਡੇ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ਬਡੇ ਗਰਬ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
badde chhatradhaaree badde garab keene |
ਤਹਾ ਆਨਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਬਡੀ ਸੈਨ ਲੀਨੇ ॥੬੮॥
tahaa aan tthaadte baddee sain leene |68|
There was none other so beautiful on the earth many egoistic canopied kings, taking their armies with them, came and stood there.68.
ਨਦੀ ਸੰਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸਬੈ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
nadee sang jaa ke sabai roop dhaare |
ਸਬੈ ਸਿੰਧ ਸੰਗੰ ਚੜੇ ਤੇਜ ਵਾਰੇ ॥
sabai sindh sangan charre tej vaare |
“He, form whom the streams adopt the glory of their comeliness and from whom the oceans also spring up, not enduring His brilliance
ਬਡੀ ਕਾਇ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
baddee kaae jaa kee mahaa roop sohai |
ਲਖੇ ਦੇਵ ਕੰਨਿਆਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੬੯॥
lakhe dev kaniaan ke maan mohai |69|
He, whose body is very big and whose beauty is magnificent and seeing whom, the heavenly maidens get allured.69.
ਕਹੋ ਨਾਰ ਤੋ ਕੌ ਇਹੈ ਬਰੁਨ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
kaho naar to kau ihai barun raajaa |
ਜਿਸੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਾਜਾਨ ਕੋ ਮਾਨ ਭਾਜਾ ॥
jisai pekh raajaan ko maan bhaajaa |
“O princess! All those different kings have come here seeing whom the pride of the kings is shattered
ਕਹਾ ਲੌ ਬਖਾਨੋ ਜਿਤੇ ਭੂਪ ਆਏ ॥
kahaa lau bakhaano jite bhoop aae |
ਸਬੈ ਬਾਲ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਭਵਾਨੀ ਬਤਾਏ ॥੭੦॥
sabai baal kau lai bhavaanee bataae |70|
To what extent should I describe those kings who have come here?” That goddess showed the princess all those kings.70.
