Dhanaasaree, Third Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਧਾਤੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
man marai dhaat mar jaae |
When the mind is conquered, its turbulent wanderings are stopped.
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਮੂਏ ਕੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
bin man mooe kaise har paae |
Without conquering the mind, how can the Lord be found?
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਦਾਰੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
eihu man marai daaroo jaanai koe |
Rare is the one who knows the medicine to conquer the mind.
ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
man sabad marai boojhai jan soe |1|
The mind is conquered through the Word of the Shabad; this is known to the Lord's humble servant. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jis no bakhase har de vaddiaaee |
The Lord forgives him, and blesses him with glory.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasaad vasai man aaee | rahaau |
By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh karanee kaar kamaavai |
The Gurmukh does good deeds,
ਤਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
taa is man kee sojhee paavai |
and so, he comes to understand this mind.
ਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਮਤੁ ਮੈਗਲ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥
man mai mat maigal mikadaaraa |
The mind is intoxicated, like the elephant with wine.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
gur ankas maar jeevaalanahaaraa |2|
The Guru places the harness upon it, and rejuvenates it. ||2||
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਾਧੁ ਸਾਧੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
man asaadh saadhai jan koee |
The mind is undisciplined; only a rare few can discipline it.
ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
achar charai taa niramal hoee |
If someone eats the uneatable, then he becomes immaculate.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਇਆ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
guramukh ihu man leaa savaar |
As Gurmukh, his mind is embellished.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਤਜੈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
haumai vichahu tajai vikaar |3|
Egotism and corruption are eradicated from within. ||3||
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਖਿਅਨੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jo dhur rakhian mel milaae |
Those whom the Primal Lord keeps united in His Union,
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
kade na vichhurreh sabad samaae |
shall never be separated from Him; they are merged in the Word of the Shabad.
ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
aapanee kalaa aape prabh jaanai |
Only God Himself knows His own power.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak guramukh naam pachhaanai |4|6|
O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||6||
